The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) is seeking technical experts in Medical Gas Piping Systems to support accreditation activities in SCC’s accreditation program for inspection bodies on a contractual basis.

Technical experts play a key role in the assessment of inspection bodies by applying their extensive technical expertise to evaluate the competence of personnel, and the conformity of processes. They will apply their considerable technical expertise by conducting file reviews, interviews with inspection body personnel and witness audits to support accreditation assessments on a contractual basis.

Key Activities
• Works closely with the SCC lead assessor to determine the scope and criteria to be assessed
• Conducts interviews as part of a team, or independently, to assess the competence of personnel
• Reviews independent assessment records to assess evidence of conformity with relevant criteria
• Observes the work of inspection body personnel to assess the conformity to procedures and the application of relevant criteria
• Reports on findings and provides recommendations based on evidence
Essential Qualifications

Canadian Citizen/Permanent Resident/Work VISA for the duration of the contract

Language Requirements

Various: bilingual imperative, French imperative, English imperative

Required Technical Knowledge
• Advanced understanding of:
◦ CAN/CSA Z305.1-92 Non-Flammable Medical Gas Piping Systems: Part III Certification and Part V Testing, Piping and Terminal Units.
◦ CAN/CSA Z305.6 Medical Oxygen Concentrator Central Supply System For use with Non-Flammable Gas Piping Systems, Part 16 Certification.
◦ CSA Z7396.1-06 Medical gas pipeline systems — Part 1: Pipelines for medical gases and vacuum.
• Familiarity with the business environment and practices of medical gas piping system inspection bodies
• Understanding of the laws and regulations governing Inspecting Medical Gas Piping Systems in Canadian jurisdictions
• At least five years of hands-on experience inspecting medical gas piping systems

• Ability to read, interpret and reference relevant criteria from standards
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Strong organizational and prioritization skills
• Strong interpersonal skills, both within an assessment team and with customers
• Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications, and familiar with information and communication technology (e.g. web-based communications software); comfortable conducting a remote assessments
Abilities

• Work with limited supervision
• Ability to effectively represent SCC and follow SCC’s policies and procedures
• Ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure
• Availability to travel within Canada and the United States, occasionally on short notice
• Ability to work in a variety of industrial, commercial and manufacturing environments
