Position purpose:
Reporting to the Director, Major Gifts, the Project and Development Officer is responsible in assisting with the preparation and execution of fundraising activities, in order to maximize giving from individuals, businesses and foundations within the University of Ottawa. The Project and Development Officer will maintain contact with key stakeholders in order to identify and direct fundraising prospects. The incumbent will assist with the coordination of the cultivation and solicitation of prospects, ensuring recognition and stewardship of donors. The Project and Development Officer will assist with the implementation of the plans set out to meet and exceed fundraising targets; preparing regular updates and written reports which will be submitted to the Executive Director, Development Office.

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • In collaboration with the Director, Major Gifts, the incumbent coordinates strategies for the University of Ottawa major campaign prospects.
  • Assists with the execution of short-term and long-term goals and objectives for the ongoing cultivation of major prospects.
  • Assists in the preparation for the solicitation of major gifts, and participates in the prospect management process in order to maximize revenue generation to the University’s major campaign. 
  • Develops and maintains a sound working knowledge of the faculty activities and priorities in both teaching and research. 
  • Liaises with faculties/departments and donors, assists in meeting the needs and priorities of the faculty, as well as the interests of individuals, corporations and foundations. 

What you will bring:

  • Undergraduate degree
  • Minimum of three years of fundraising or related experience 
  • Proven experience in administration and project management
  • Proven ability to synthesize information from various sources, and work in a dynamic professional environment
  • Ability to deal with the public, senior officials and high profile stakeholders
  • Sound judgement, with excellent listening, negotiating, problem solving, priority setting, and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of database, spreadsheet and word processing software, Windows operating system, e-mail, and Internet, with the ability to analyse and manage data via a computerized system (preferably a fundraising database such as Raiser’s Edge).
  • Given the personal and private nature of some information on file, must be mature and able to exercise professional discretion. 
  • Proven ability to take initiative and work in collaboration with volunteers/donors.
  • Superior communication skills in English and French
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends
