The Business Systems Analyst (BSA) role is a temporary position that supports Sheridan’s Project Springboard initiative. Project Springboard is a pan-institutional technological transformation initiative launched in response to the 2020-24 Sheridan Strategic Plan. The Springboard Portfolio Management Office (PMO) involves the management of over fifty (50) projects, divided among four (4) portfolios that are essential to the success of advancing Sheridan’s digital transformation. The BSA works with business leaders to determine their business needs and transforms them into information technology system requirements. Another key activity is to provide guidance and techniques for conducting user acceptance testing and managing issues that arise.


What You’ll be Doing

  • Performing the initial assessment of new system requirements, determines feasibility, significance and scope.
  • Working with functional areas to identify business and technology gaps, documents and manages requirements and models business solutions. 
  • Conveying the business requirements in technical terms, architects solutions, and leads the change initiative with implementation by ESS (Enterprise Systems Services) and other IT resources.
  • Engaging business areas to gain an understanding of their operations, systems and business functions to facilitate the modelling of process enhancements.
  • Designing, developing and recommending new or enhanced business processes in support of existing information systems and technology.
  • Organizing design reviews with the Enterprise Architecture board, providing documents/artifacts outlined by the board.
  • Designing and architecting new system solutions, implements, configures and tests feasible solutions.
  • Assisting in the definition of business gaps and identifies various options in system solutions and leading the decision-making in identifying a preferred solution approach.
  • Facilitating systems design changes or enhancements to departments’ applications, to increase the efficiency of department operations and improve quality, quantity and accessibility of information that is available.
  • Coordinating user acceptance testing to ensure client satisfaction with information technology solutions.
  • Other projects and initiatives as needed.


About You

You have the skills and knowledge to work with an increasingly diverse student and staff population as well as a proven commitment to anti-oppression, equity, and inclusion. 

You have a Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and deal with aggressive timelines and the associated pressure. 

Your communications skills allow you to network across business teams to build trust and collaborative working relationships. You have the ability to interact with staff at all levels including senior leaders. 

You are able to work with both technical and non-technical users and can negotiated deadlines, manage expectations and provide alternate solutions where necessary. 

The successful candidate will also meet the following qualifications: 

  • A 3-year diploma/degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field along with 8 years experience which includes the following: (Equivalency will be considered)
  • Mapping processes and performing present state, future state and gap analysis used for business performance improvement
  • Workshop facilitation and training
  • Conducting cost benefit analysis and business case and assisting with project charter development
  • Structured systems design and development experience 
  • Creating technical requirements gathering/documentation and providing status reports for management
  • Chairing and facilitating workshops/meetings as needed
  • Process analysis and process improvement

Campus Location: Trafalgar (may be assigned activities at any Sheridan campus) once normal campus operations resume. This position is currently working remotely.

Hourly Range: $41.96 - $48.66
Hours/Week: 40 
Hours:  8:30am – 5:00pm
