CityNews Ottawa is looking for a budding storyteller, brimming with news ideas. Does the idea of a fast-paced, multi-platform newsroom seem like your ideal environment? Then we want you to join our team!  

 

We are seeking a part-time technical producer to operate remote and live broadcasts for two talk shows - The Rob Snow Show & The Sam Laprade Show – Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. This role will report to the News Director at 2001 Thurston Drive Ottawa, ON K1G 6C9.

 

What you will do…

  • Work in studio to connect phone-in guests with live host(s).
  • Answer and vet listener phone calls before going on air.
  • Ensure programming is timed out correctly.
  • Create podcasts for future replay as required.
  • Edit and produce talk show content for overnight news.
  • Assist announcers and the talk show editorial producer when needed.
  • Work in studio to establish signal strength and set up of remote and live broadcasts, when needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned.


What you will bring…

  • Previous radio or television experience.
  • Knowledge of Burli and WideOrbit.
  • Passion for local news and current events (national & international).
  • Self-motivation and being a team player with a positive attitude and passion to succeed.
  • Digital proficiency in social media and web content creation
  • Must be highly detail-oriented with exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • A valid Ontario driver’s license (preferred but not required).


CityNews Ottawa is looking for someone with the ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment under minimal supervision. The ideal candidate can come up with independent, creative solutions to meet the quick and ever changing needs of a live broadcast in real-time. 

Opportunity to work in conjunction with newsroom staff to create original broadcast and digital news content, as well as training and mentorship with some of the top talent in the broadcast news industry in Ottawa.

 

After joining CityNews Ottawa in January 2020, The Rob Snow Show has become the #1 show in Ottawa for adults between 9 a.m. and noon.

The Sam Laprade Show hit the airwaves on July 1, 2021. After already making a name for herself in the philanthropy and charity sector, Sam Laprade now helps listeners tackle local issues that matter in Ottawa and The Valley. Sam is a recent winner of a 2021 regional RTDNA award in the category of News – Live Special Events.
