Your Opportunity

Stantec’s Environmental Services Practice is looking for an Intermediate Acoustical Engineer/Specialist to join our Acoustic, Noise and Vibration (NVA) team. This opportunity is located in our Mississauga, ON office location. Our Acoustical engineers provide specialized services to a wide variety of sectors including industry, government, architecture, transportation, and buildings. Our practitioners offer a full suite of services including permitting, monitoring, modeling, planning, policy studies, design, and control.

Your Key Responsibilities

General Engineering

  • Conducting data collection, desktop based technical analysis and modeling, post processing, interpretation, and documentation of results under guidance of senior practitioners
  • Conducting field measurements in support of technical analyses and modeling
  • Authoring technical reports based on the results of technical analyses
  • Coordinating with project teams (internal and external)
  • Working to assist in streamlining and standardizing methods for data collection and analysis.
  • Project management of small-scale project, including managing schedule and budgets

Monitoring

  • Technical lead for all noise and vibration measurement and monitoring for the NVA
  • Equipment responsibilities, including coordination, equipment recovery, calibration, repair, etc.
  • Equipment budget preparation for maintenance, upgrades and new equipment purchases
  • Preparation of monitoring workplans, including statement of work and budgets
  • Coordination of permission to enter
  • Coordination and oversight of field work and staff, with some field work when required
  • Coordinate with contractors, clients and Stantec on monitoring logistics
  • Support marketing and business development efforts of senior NVA staff of construction noise and vibration monitoring service
  • Review measurement and monitoring data as quality review
  • Prepare template reports for monitoring data and assessment presentation
  • Develop equipment security measures for monitoring equipment
  • Develop hardware and/or software solutions to improve and optimize monitoring field work, analysis and reporting, including innovation development
  • Project management of monitoring and measurement projects
  • Prepare equipment payback analysis for future equipment purchases

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Familiarity with data acquisition practices and software
  • Experience with sound and vibration measurement instruments is required
  • Experience with sound and vibration modeling software (e.g., CADNA/A, TNM, Stamina, STAMSON, etc.) would be an asset
  • Demonstrated experience in working in a team environment and communicating with external clients
  • Working knowledge of software (e.g., Microsoft Office, CAD, etc.)
  • Creative, organized and able to multi-task while working independently
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Diligent and detail oriented with the desire to learn
  • Flexibility in scheduling required for travel related to site surveys
  • A valid driver’s license is required

Education and Experience

  • Graduate of an accredited university or college with a major in Engineering is desired.
  • Registered or eligible to register as an Engineer-in-Training with the Professional Engineer of Ontario is an asset.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in the area of noise, vibration and acoustics.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
