Your Opportunity

We are seeking full-time Project Archaeologist to join our Archaeology team in Atlantic Canada. An individual in this role will be highly organized and self-motivated. Your expertise will be utilized in all four provinces of Atlantic Canada, from urban core brownfields to fly-in only wilderness, for a wide array of private and public sector clients. You may also take advantage of opportunities to collaborate with Stantec colleagues across Canada..

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and execute all aspects of archaeological projects, from proposal development and project setup to deliverable preparation and submission
  • Organize and conduct field-based archaeological impact assessments and participate in and supervise all aspects of fieldwork related to cultural resource management-based heritage assessments including walkovers and shovel testing
  • Act as a Project Manager and provide Field Supervisor oversight, when required
  • Work closely with other Project Managers and Team Leads to organize resourcing and logistics
  • Participate in business development and proposal preparation
  • Liaise with Indigenous peoples and communities
  • Liaise with clients, stakeholders and regulators
  • Deliver technically sound recommendations for cultural resource management
  • Manage project field teams
  • Write or quality review proposals and archaeological reports
  • Actively participate in and promote Stantec’s HSSE program
  • Become familiar with various reporting and documenting technologies Stantec has inhouse

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Highly organized and willing to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to mentor junior staff
  • Desire to work closely with other environmental professionals, regulatory staff, and Indigenous community members
  • Capable of delivering quality work in a deadline-driven environment with minimal supervision
  • Able and interested in both field and office-based tasks
  • Willingness and ability to work outdoors for long days in rough terrain, and to carry out frequent and rigorous manual labour (e.g. hand shoveling, troweling)
  • Field Directing skills and experience, including setting up archaeology grids and map reading
  • A valid provincial drivers license is required

Education and Experience

  • A Master’s degree in Anthropology or Archaeology, or equivalent, is required
  • Currently be or able to secure a Registered Professional Archaeologist status
  • Proven ability to hold a Permit for archaeological work in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, is an asset
  • A minimum of 5 years of cultural resource management experience required, with a minimum one year of experience managing archaeological projects
