Your Opportunity

Stantec has an opportunity for an Intermediate Wildlife Biologist to help lead our terrestrial wildlife programs. The position will be based out of one of our British Columbia offices (Sidney, Burnaby, Terrace, Kelowna, Kamloops, or Prince George). The ideal candidate is someone who can lead the development and implementation of our bat-related scopes of work, including bat acoustic and emergence surveys, acoustic data analysis, reporting, and technical development. The position provides opportunities to work on a diversity of other terrestrial wildlife work, such as avian acoustic data analysis, preparing components of environmental assessments, writing wildlife management and monitoring plans, and supporting environmental permitting activities.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Promote a strong health and safety culture and actively participate in Stantec’s Health, Safety, Security and Environment Program
  • Lead the development and implementation of bat acoustic surveys, bat emergence and habitat assessment surveys, and complete bat acoustic data analysis
  • Lead or assist with the development and implementation of terrestrial wildlife components of environmental projects such as biophysical inventories, environmental assessments, management and monitoring plans, and compliance reports.
  • Lead or assist with the development and implementation of terrestrial wildlife field programs for bats and other terrestrial wildlife
  • Provide technical direction and support to junior staff for field and reporting activities
  • Undertake field work as needed
  • Technical writing and report preparation
  • Assist with proposal writing and business development
  • Manage tasks according to approved scopes of work
  • Provide technical advice relating to terrestrial wildlife on multidisciplinary projects.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Proven technical writing, communication, and organization skills
  • Proven experience developing and leading bat-related field programs
  • Proven experience leading bat acoustic data analysis (e.g., Kaleidoscope Pro) and related reporting
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal environmental legislation and regulations that relate to terrestrial wildlife
  • Experience preparing and coordinating baseline reports, environmental assessments, impact statements, or mitigation and management plans preferred
  • Experience leading or assisting with field programs or reporting for terrestrial wildlife other than bats is an asset
  • Willingness to travel for project work and undertake field work
  • Strong interpersonal and social skills and ability to interact across a broad range of audiences/ technical backgrounds including internal and external clients, regulatory agencies, and Indigenous groups
  • Experience supervising people and/or leading teams is an asset

Education and Experience

Bachelor or graduate degree in biology, or a related discipline from a recognized university.

Registration with or ability to register with the British Columbia College of Applied Biology as a Registered Professional Biologist strongly preferred.

Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, which may come from a combination of work or graduate degree experience.
