Job Description:

The e-Business team in Application Operations Support (AOS) is dedicated to providing operations and support services to ensure reliability of IT applications. Through innovation, continuous improvement, and collaboration, we strive to find new and better ways to bring value to Sun Life.

We seek a highly motivated Business Systems Consultant with at least 5 years of business analysis and requirements elicitation experience with a focus on reporting dashboard requirements analysis, and SQL based queries and data extraction. Experience with financial applications or financial reporting would be an asset. This is an application operations unit for high visibility customer/client facing applications, so there will also be problem analysis and triage as part of your role.

The successful candidate will have strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.  As a member of the team that supports Enterprise IT applications, responsibilities include coordination of client operational requests, debugging and problem solving and database queries.

Working with this team, you will:

  • utilize your knowledge of business objectives and processes, products, people, technology, and quality concepts
  • partner with enterprise-wide business and technology areas
  • ensure the technology and process solutions delivered/supported meet the needs of the business partners with an appropriate level of quality based on risk.

Main Accountabilities:

  • Provide day-to-day support for a wide variety of e-Business web applications
  • Expediently triage all file issues encountered and perform or delegate analysis, remediation, and resolution 
  • Manage and triage incoming Service Requests to resolution
  • Review and/or approve Change Management requests
  • Manage all business user access to e-Business web applications and perform annual security reviews
  • Chair business & technical partner meetings: schedule and set agendas
  • Assist key business partner with vendor management
  • Provide coordination and manage different levels of complexity as required
  • Lead team-specific Disaster Recovery Exercise preparation and execution
  • Work with various Business areas and their IT partners to gather, document and manage requirements on baseline/operations issues, enhancements, and small projects by following current company development methodology.
  • Facilitate communication between business and technology areas to address business issues.
  • Ensure all written documentation is clear, understandable, audience-appropriate, and accurately captures key information
  • Work with the team on process analysis and improvements
  • Develop an understanding of clients, system(s) being managed as well as the business direction.
  • Participate fully as a member of the team by supporting a work environment that promotes knowledge sharing, customer service, quality, innovation, and teamwork.

Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of business systems analysis principles and best practices.
  • Comfortable working with the SDLC or agile
  • Strong knowledge of SQL, or the aptitude to learn it quickly.
  • Excellent organization, communication, presentation, interpersonal, negotiation, facilitation, influencing, and driving process skills
  • Broad understanding of an IT operations/delivery team

Technical Skills:

  • Minimum of 5 years previous experience working in business analysis/technical role is required
  • Facilitation: ability to guide and keep a group on track, recognize issues that need to be dealt with, ensure everyone is heard; provide guidance through collaborative decision-making to achieve its goals
  • Analysis: ability to break down high level business requirements into more detail through collaboration
  • Consulting: Gather information by applying multiple approaches or styles applicable to optimize outcome
  • Partner with clients using different questioning techniques and objective listening to drive towards a common goal
  • Active partnership in problem management process
  • Strong MS Office skills (Excel, Word, PPT)
  • SQL skills
  • Data Analysis skills

 Assets:

  • Previous IT operational support experience is a requirement.
  • Financial Applications support or Financial Reporting experience is an asset
  • Working in an Agile or Digital Enterprise Model
  • Ability to organize highly technical individuals
  • Good understanding of systems development methodologies
  • Product/system knowledge
  • Process improvement experience
  • Technical writing
  • Project management
