About the Faculty of Medicine
Welcome to the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine, the first and largest bilingual medical faculty in Canada. Position purpose:
Reporting to the Project Manager, The Communications Technology Specialist, a key member of our Project Management Team, will be responsible for digital development of e-Learning, the development and support of innovation applications, and other print and electronic media resources. They are responsible for producing a wide variety of online media and pedagogical documents using different techniques, software applications and equipment. The specialist is the key responsible party for technical operations related to all departmental communication materials. 
 

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Production Support: Produces, films and edits video, audio and photographic content to be used as website content, event promotion, podcasting, and online learning modules. Responsible for the set up and operation of a variety of production equipment such as edit suite, digital cameras, sound booth, microphones, or voice recorders. Produces closed captioning and transcripts for multimedia products. 
  • Business Analysis: Gathers and evaluates the business and operational requirements of client requests, to recommend the procedures, implementation, development and improvements deemed necessary with regards to digital media strategy for online teaching and learning, branding, marketing and user interfaces. Assists in location scouting and permissions. Setup and capture of footage, including lighting and audio capture. Knowledge of social media and web technologies and maintenance an asset.
  • Content Management. Responsible for posting videos to social media channels such as YouTube and Facebook. Updating and maintaining department websites as needed. Communicates with clients, where applicable, regrading the production and delivery of content.
  • Risk Assessment. Anticipate risks and issues in plans and requirements and work in collaboration with internal team as well as clients in order to take appropriate action to mitigate and resolve them. Ensures that solutions implemented are fully tested, functional, and accurate.
  • Client Service: Organize in time a series of actions or events in order to realize an objective or a project.. Main point of contact for inquiries, schedule and secure locations as needed and inform key stakeholders about services, methods and regulations specific to the department’s media lab.
  • Design: Produces, develops and implements motion (animation) graphic design concepts to be included in e-learning modules or other communication collateral (i.e., different types of presentation and/or promotional resources such as PDF documents, eBooks, videos, exhibition panels, information & photo booths and display cases, etc.). Provides a full range of communication design services, including professional photographic, audio and video editing services.
     

What you will bring:

  • Certificate or Diploma in Multimedia, Visual Communications, Graphic Design or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3 years of experience in communications or media design role. 
  • Expert use of video and audio production hardware equipment including cameras, lighting, microphone, speakers, etc.
  • Expert knowledge of video and audio production and editing software suites such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Camtasia, SquadCast, Premier Pro, etc.
  • Knowledge of and experience in e-learning with UI/UX learner-centred design practices as they apply to design, development and review of online learning environments.
  • Working knowledge of website management.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and best practices.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and repairing programs.
  • Knowledge of marketing and online communications focused on online tools and services.
  • Knowledge of e-learning technical solutions.
  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team environment involving colleagues both in and outside the service.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines while working autonomously.
  • Ability to occasionally work outside of normal office hours. 
  • Ability to regularly travel (and access to a vehicle) in and around the Ottawa area with media equipment.
  • Ability to communicate in both official languages. 

Bilingualism: French and English (spoken and written); to be considered for this position, candidates must be rated at the Low Advanced proficiency level or higher for both oral comprehension and reading comprehension in their second official language. The rating is determined by a proficiency test designed by the Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute.
