As a savvy Data Developer, you will play an active role throughout the development to sustainment cycle, from design, to build test and deploy; specializing in rapid deployment of data pipelines and business analytics solutions, including orchestration, automated testing and quality control, continuous integration/deployments, versioning and environment management.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Work on multiple projects as a technical team member or lead, driving user story analysis and elaboration for data requirements
  • Translate complex functional and technical requirements into detailed, design, and implement and maintain the business’s ETL pipeline and data warehouse: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, and re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability
  • Build analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition, operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics
  • Construct the production management and monitoring of data pipelines
  • Provide in-depth knowledge of Data modelling, warehousing and reporting platform(s); Hands-on experience in writing complex, highly-optimized SQL queries across large datasets; Experience of working with various scripting and programming languages (Python, R, JScript etc.)

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Five years of experience in data modelling and data mining techniques
  • Five years in ETL tools, techniques, data warehousing, and metadata & quality management
  • A Bachelor’s or Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or a related technical field
  • Experienced deploying Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Factory and well-acquainted with other Azure services including Azure Data Lake and Azure ML
  • Experience with modern data engineering tools (Synapse, Spark, Pandas, Snowflake) in addition to strong relational database skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and well-versed with fundamental programming concepts and/or data structures and algorithms.
  • Strong computing foundation and fundamentals, including experience with Design Patterns
  • Proven communication and social skills
  • Alignment with our values: safety above all else, stronger together, operational discipline, curiosity and lifelong learning, and act with integrity

Preference for:

  • Excellent grasp of cloud fundamentals and solutioning around PaaS with a preference for those familiar with Azure
  • Good understanding of DataOps principals and tools
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as C# and Python
  • Experience with streaming ingestion and real-time data processing

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • This role can also be supported from one of our hub locations (e.g. Fort McMurray, Edmonton, Sarnia, Montreal)
