As a Project Controls Estimator, you will be part of a dynamic and integrated team located in Montreal Refinery. Under the supervision of the Team Leader, Project Controls, the Estimator will be responsible for cost estimate activities of a project portfolio in various areas of the Montreal Refinery. You will demonstrate rigor and be proactive throughout all phases of the project with a multi-disciplinary team of Suncor employees and partners (consulting firms, contractors). You will be the primary estimation resource person for the Project Engineering department.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Estimate and forecast indirect and direct costs for a variety of refinery projects ranging in size from $500K to $30M
  • Review all final estimates ensuring completeness
  • Participate in the annual refinery business plan review
  • Develop high-level estimates based on capacity factors as well as equipment factors for early stage estimate options
  • Collaborate with various groups involved in project execution (external engineering firms, construction contractors, and operations)
  • Critically analyze estimates developed by contractors and provide guidance to extended teams to develop estimates as per Suncor’s expectation
  • Ensure that the estimates produced adhere to standards and procedures outlined by the Project Control governance and those established in the Suncor Asset Development & Execution Model (ADEM)
  • Ensure accurate and timely estimates are delivered on the agreed upon dates
  • Analyze estimates using benchmarking tool, as well as inform and influence stakeholders based on analysis

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Fluent in French (spoken and written); please submit your resume in French
  • 5-15 years of work experience in a Cost Estimation role in the industrial sector
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically in Excel
  • Knowledge of ERP systems (preference for SAP)
  • A High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • You are resourceful and versatile when it comes to solving problems and you have a strong attention to details
  • You are results-oriented with exceptional analytical and priority management skills
  • Alignment with our values: safety above all else, stronger together, operational discipline, curiosity and lifelong learning, and act with integrity

Preference for:

  • Fluent in English for frequent external communications (spoken and written)
  • Post-secondary degree in a related technical or business function
  • Relevant certifications in Estimation, Project Management, Cost Controls and/or Project Planning (AEÉCQ, ECC)
  • Experience with Project management, Cost Controls and/or Project Planning

 

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work at our Montreal Refinery offices, located at 11701 Sherbrooke Street East (Engineering Department)
  • Competitive base salary of $85,000 to $105,000, depending on experience, plus numerous benefits and advancement opportunities
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
