The Financial Consultant is responsible to retain and grow market share in the community in which they operate. For this position the market is primarily medical students, residents and new to practice. They will develop new opportunities to prospect and grow the client base, while ensuring retention of clients through relationship building and developing comprehensive financial plans.  
 
Duties and Responsibilities: 
•    Prepare and execute quarterly business plans to aid in the meeting of individual, regional and corporate targets 
•    Actively participate in prospecting 
•    Complete financial planning in the areas of risk management, estate planning, liability management, cashflow/budgeting, education funding, tax, retirement planning, investment management, practice management and goal setting 
•    Prepare comprehensive financial plans and specific investment strategies based on MD Management developed and managed optimal portfolio ranges 
•    Understand and comply with all industry regulations and MD's program and process requirements 
•    Conduct financial planning seminars and information meetings throughout the region to inform clients about new strategies, legislative changes and MD Management's programs 
•    Increase visibility of products and services through contact with centers of influence 
•    Keep current on issues affecting the financial affairs of clients, including a general knowledge of income tax, investment trends and products, as well as any other issues impacting clients 
•    Travel within established travel circuit if required
•    Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions. 
•    Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Qualifications and Licensing Requirements: 
•    University degree in business, commerce or a degree related to practice of financial planning 
•    IIROC as a Registered Representative having completed the Canadian Securities Course, the Conduct & Practices Handbook and 90 day training is preferred but would consider MFDA licensed candidates 
•    Completion of Life License and the willingness to complete other regulatory requirements 
 
 
Personal Characteristics and Experience: 
•    2+ years financial planning experience within the financial services industry 
•    Strong working knowledge of Financial Planning 
•    Previous lending experience will be considered an asset 
•    Good product knowledge 
•    A demonstrated track record of above average sales in a financial services or related environment 
•    Strong marketing skills 
•    Excellent presentation skills 
•    Strong communication and interpersonal skills
