Job Description:

The Investment Solutions Financial Controls team is responsible for ensuring the timeliness, accuracy and completeness of accounting transactions from the Individual Wealth administration systems through to the General Ledger. This includes cash controls monitoring, accounting and reporting related to the Investment Solutions Retail business. The Financial Control Specialist will be responsible for ensuring that all work is complete and accurate, identifying and escalating any issues and offering alternatives for a solution. The successful candidate should possess a natural willingness to support the team in the accomplishment of all objectives, strive to understand client’s needs, create efficiencies and support innovation.

What will you do?

  • Reconciliation of various suspense and balance sheet accounts

  • Completing manual journal entries

  • Monitor daily accounting reports and error corrections

  • Research discrepancies to reconcile all related bank accounts for the Individual Wealth products

  • Responsible for money movement between various systems and bank accounts

  • Error tracking and trending to increase accuracy and create process improvements

  • Balancing accounting feeder files sent from the administration system to the General Ledger

  • Provide consultation to business partners to ensure standard accounting practices are being followed so control issues do not occur

  • Identify and execute process improvement opportunities on an ongoing basis

  • Maintain and create accounting procedures documentation

Requirements

  • Previous accounting experience (reconciliation, audit, reporting, etc.)

  • Demonstrated ability with a track record of leading/supporting process improvement

  • Experience with Oracle, and SAP or other general ledger systems

  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills

  • Strong communication and organizational skills

  • Ability to operate effectively as a team member as well as independently with limited supervision

  • Solid problem-solving & analytical skills

  • Attention to accuracy and detail

  • Adaptable and positive approach toward change

  • Ability to handle conflicting priorities and meet stringent deadlines

Assets

  • Banking processes experience

  • Knowledge of and experience with Sun Life’s internal administration systems including Prism, Ingenium and LA

Notes:

  • Overtime will be required during peak periods (month-end and RSP season)

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
