POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Indigenous Studies Program at KPU is grounded in Indigenous Knowledges and Critical Indigenous Studies, with land and place-based thinking, learning, and relationship-building being integral. Enhancing relationships with local Indigenous nations, territories, and communities. The teaching and learning practices in the department are based on mindfully supporting and strengthening decolonization and resurgence across communities, disciplines and contexts. There is also a strong emphasis on dialogue and collaboration, access and inclusion, as part of commitment and accountability to open and ethical community-building, within the classroom, the department, and beyond.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The Faculty of Arts at Kwantlen Polytechnic University invites applications for the Qualified Faculty List in Indigenous Studies for semester-long contracts, starting May 1, 2022, or as needed by the department for future semesters. The successful applicant will be qualified to teach INDG 1100: Introduction to Indigenous Studies, as well as have opportunities to help co-vision and co-build this growing field at KPU. 

Indigenous Studies Master's Degree in a relevant discipline required, or fluency in Indigenous languages where needed. Preference will be given to candidates with a record of teaching excellence at the post-secondary level. Preference will be given to Indigenous persons, and grassroots and community-based knowledge and engagement are an asset.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

A complete application can be submitted in multiple formats as part of a more decolonial and inclusive approach, choosing one or a combination of the three choices below: 
 
1.    A cover letter; a curriculum vitae; a statement of teaching philosophy; evidence of teaching experience in any context; copies of graduate degrees (if relevant); a letter of support or documentation regarding your connections to Indigenous community and/or an Indigenous organization; and a list of three professional, community and/or academic references able to comment on your relevant experience, knowledge and leadership. 
 
2.    An oral submission via audio and/or video, sharing the reasons and intent for your application, including why and how you believe you are qualified to teach in the program. You are asked to share in sufficient detail regarding your experience and knowledge, teaching and leadership. Kindly also provide names of at least three pertinent professional, community and/or academic references. Also include a letter of support or documentation regarding your connections to Indigenous community and/or an Indigenous organization. 
 
3.    Creative submissions in any format, including artwork, portfolios, etc. The overall aim is for people to be able to apply to the position in a format that is most resonant with their worldview and practice. In any creative submissions, please do articulate or identify the connections between your experience and knowledge and the position at hand. Kindly also include elements that may provide us a sense of your teaching approach. Please provide names of at least three relevant references as part of the submission. Also include a letter of support or documentation regarding your connections to Indigenous community and/or an Indigenous organization.
