The University of Windsor’s Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (FAHSS) invites applications for the position of Associate Dean, Student Experience and Interdisciplinary Studies for a term of three to five years, commencing July 1, 2022 according to Senate Bylaw 8.  The candidate must hold a tenured position at the rank of Associate Professor (or higher) or a Learning Specialist, AAS Level III with permanence (or higher), in the Faculty of Arts Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Windsor.  This position is subject to final budgetary approval.

The Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences is the largest academic unit in the University of Windsor.  Comprised of 156 full-time faculty members and 10 limited term appointments, 13 ancillary academic staff, and 16 sessional lecturers, plus 54 support staff, and approximately 5,000 full- and part-time undergraduate and graduate students, it offers 48 undergraduate and 12 graduate programs.  More information may be found at https://www.uwindsor.ca/fahss/

The Associate Dean, Student Experience and Interdisciplinary Studies is an integral part of the academic leadership team in the Office of the Dean and will work closely with the Dean, the Associate Dean, Academic and Student Affairs, the Associate Dean, Research & Graduate Studies and Heads/Directors and Undergrad chairs of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, as well as the Associate Deans in other faculties.  Associate Decanal responsibilities include developing and supporting student experiential learning and leadership opportunities alongside academic and non-academic programming for FAHSS students, assisting AAUs with new program development, and liaising with AAUs and departmental student ambassadors on recruitment activities.  This position will also oversee undergraduate interdisciplinary programs in FAHSS and may involve commitments outside the normal business day, including weekends and evenings.  The position also includes other duties as assigned to assist the operations of the Dean’s administrative team.

The Associate Dean will represent the Faculty and the Dean on committees inside and outside the Faculty, undertake other tasks and special assignments essential to the smooth functioning of the Faculty and may also serve as Acting Dean in the Dean’s absence.

Applicants must hold a tenured position as Associate Professor (or higher) or a Learning Specialist, AAS level III with permanence (or higher), appointed in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.  The successful applicant will have a solid record of leadership in program development, student experience initiatives, collegiality, diplomacy, and tact, as well as familiarity with FAHSS and its policies and processes.  Preferred qualifications include prior administrative experience with strong communication, organization skills and a commitment to teaching and learning excellence as well as student support initiatives.

  • three (3) current letters of reference sent directly by email to the Chair of the Search Committee by the referees.
