Your Opportunity

As an Environmental Scientist on our Saskatchewan Team, you will work with close guidance and supervision on tasks and smaller projects, and as a team member of larger projects under the guidance of intermediate and senior professionals in our Site Investigation, Remediation and Response and Hazardous Materials Practice areas. You will participate in the evaluation, recommendation, and specification of engineering and scientific principles to select the best plan involving collaboration with multiple stakeholders and expertise within the company. You will assist in verifying compliance with applicable codes and engineering and scientific standards/practices.

This is role will be based in REgina or Saskatoon.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Perform fieldwork as directed including supporting and conducting assessments (e.g., Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, hazardous materials surveys, indoor air quality assessments)
  • Support remediation projects (including both in-situ and ex-situ remediation programs)
  • Support Emergency Spill Response Projects and support with tasks including environmental monitoring on projects
  • Conduct both groundwater and surface water sampling along with drilling programs, soil logging, and sampling
  • Assist with basic environmental assessment duties on projects of various complexity
  • Assist with on-site construction observation, contractor coordination, and daily inspection reports
  • Able to liaise between clients, contractors, municipal officials, and third parties on-site
  • Assisting technical staff with various project tasks including researching, compiling, and evaluating project data, and preparing technical reports

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • General knowledge of sampling techniques (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, soil vapour), as well as testing/sampling protocols
  • General knowledge of basic chemistry concepts
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Strong documentation, note-taking skills, attention to detail is required
  • Working understanding of policies and procedures for Health and Safety, including client-specific training (as required)
  • Ability to check own work for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule
  • Capacity to recognize when technical problems are developing and initiate appropriate corrective actions
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to take initiative and direct sub-contractors, drive investigations and remediation programs.
  • Capable of communicating in a professional and positive manner, both in writing and in person, with clients, co-workers, regulators, and external stakeholders.
  • Ability and willingness to travel and/or work shift requirements in remote locations and/or out of province.

Education and Experience

Technical degree/diploma/certificate or equivalent in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum of 2-5 years of experience.

Valid driver's license and vehicle required.

Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time.
