Global Banking and Markets

 

Global Banking & Markets provides a full range of investment banking, credit and risk management products and services relevant to the financing and strategic development needs of our clients. Our products include debt and equity financing, mergers & acquisitions, corporate banking, institutional equity sales, trading and research, fixed income products, derivatives, energy, foreign exchange, and precious & metals. We also cross-sell the full range of wholesale products and services offered by the Scotiabank Group.

 

Purpose

 

Leads and oversees Corporate & Investment Banking’s (CIB) Operations & Support team in Canada ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

 

Accountabilities

 

  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout the team to deepen internal and external client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Sets consistent expectations for the administration team and ensures that the team is reliably delivering high quality support to each of our 10 sector/product teams.
  • Provides leadership to CIB Canadian administrative team (excluding Calgary team) and establishes performance objectives and measures, timely and constructive feedback motivating and coaching team to deliver high quality results to support the business.
    • Working with CIB Management team, ensure team provides high quality support for CIB banking professionals
    • Works closely with Associate Director, Business Management, to update teams on policy and procedures and to ensure it being enforced by their team
    • Ensures the administration team follows uniform procedures, guidelines, and processes to deliver their responsibilities. Partners with CIB Manager (in Calgary) to ensure consistent approach across all Canadian offices
    • Work to create an inclusive and supportive environment for the admin team
    • Manage absences, vacations and determine back-up support for the team
  • Manages end-to-end processes; has accountability for performance and results of the team; coaches’ team on what and how to execution areas within their mandate; focuses teams on operational excellence and service standards.
  • Leads the development and execution of CIB Operations, including but not limited to:
    • Performs periodic audits of internal data to ensure compliance guidelines are being adhered to (e.g., LAM and physical access, restricted folders access).
    • Accountable for business continuity plan (BCP) and other operational aspects to ensure business is running efficiently
    • Key contact to our Compliance, Internal Control, and IT&S teams
  • Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops, and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviors; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and managing succession and development planning for the team.
  • Performs other duties as required

 

Requirements

 

  • University degree or experience in Operations Management
  • Applies in-depth understanding of professional standards, operational and/or business drivers of areas managed
  • Strong organizational skills required to support multiple and conflicting priorities on a day-to-day basis
  • Strong leadership skills of level 4 and 5 team, including coaching and development and management skills
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with business partners
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and driven team-player attitude

 

Working Conditions

 

  • Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence.
  • Limited travel requirements.
