Do you have leadership experience doing permitting work for mine or tailings environments in the oil and energy industry? You will be accountable to ensure the standard for Control of Hazardous Energy for the Permit to Work (CHEPTW) is followed for all safe work permits and isolations to protect people, equipment, property, environment, and the reputation of Suncor. You will interact with stakeholders across the mining area, holding accountability for the mine entry procedure and the leadership and development of six mine entry Supervisors.   

You will use your expertise to:

  • Execute the environment, health and safety management system, participate in HAZOP and safe work plans
  • Conduct investigations, ensuring timeliness, accuracy, and root cause understanding 
  • Complete field level hazard assessments as per Suncor standards and Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) legislation
  • Performance manage and develop mine entry Supervisors
  • Lead the review of current mine practices, procedures, and standards for mine entry and permitting
  • Ensure employee and contractor compliance with procedures, standards, rules, and work practices
  • Administer the collective agreement in a fair and just manner
  • Provide a framework for continuous improvement by responding to performance feedback and adjusting operations and reinforcing existing expectations
  • Ensure that the contractor management standard is followed when using contractors
  • Collaborate with all areas of mine operations, representing the functional expertise to seek synergies
  • Safely permit, audit and access authorizations to mine operational areas
  • Represent mine operations safe work permits at the community of practice

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • 5 years of experience in plant operations and control of work processes in the oil and energy industry  
  • Subject matter expertise in CHEPTW permitting, lockout tag-out and associated standards and procedures  
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks involving multiple stakeholders daily during high activity periods
  • A working knowledge in Livelink, ADLP, SAP and Microsoft Office products  
  • Familiarity with the OH&S Codes as they apply to mining work execution
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills, with a demonstrated ability to make and influence decisions
  • Strong collaboration skills that enable you to build positive relationships with diverse groups
  • The ability to exercise good judgment on complex decisions
  • A High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Base Plant Mine in Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
