Job Description:

Reporting to the Director, Drug Review and Pharmaceutical Partnerships, the Pharmaceutical Partnerships Manager, will be an active member of the Pharmaceutical Benefits Product Development team within Group Benefits (GB).  The Manager is accountable with the team as executing and delivering on Sun Life’s Pharmaceutical Partnerships strategy. The Manager will work closely with multiple internal and external stakeholders including pharmaceutical manufacturer representatives (Market Access). We aspire to help our Clients live healthier lives by ensuring access to medications while fostering the financial sustainability of drug plans.

What will you do?

  • Lead the execution of the whole negotiation process with pharmaceutical manufacturers (negotiation strategy, negotiation phase, contracting) for specific drug therapies to foster the financial sustainability of drug plans

  • Work closely with other team members and internal partners (such as Clinical Pharmacists, Health Economist, other Pharmaceutical Partnerships Managers, Pricing & Profitability, Legal)

  • Support innovative project and initiatives including the achievement of patient health outcomes

  • Evolve Sun Life’s Pharmaceutical Partnerships program by ensuring agreements are relevant and competitive based on market dynamics and by cultivating internal and external relationships

  • Monitor and synthesize market research and external issues impacting pharmaceutical reimbursement including industry trends, public policy, and the competitive landscape

  • Contribute to Sun Life’s overall Pharmaceutical Benefits & Innovation Strategy

  • Provide thought leadership and represent Sun Life and the Pharma Benefit area at external client presentations and industry events on an occasional basis

What do you need to succeed?

  • Undergraduate degree (Bachelor) in a related field (Pharmacy, Health, Science or Commerce)

  • Graduate degree or MBA considered an asset

  • 5 years experience in pharmaceutical market access or a relevant role in the insurance industry

  • Subject matter expertise in market access, benefits/insurance industry, value proposition development, drug reimbursement processes in the public and private payer landscape, public policy

  • Very strong negotiating skills

  • Strength in synthesizing complex concepts/information such as clinical evaluation, pharmacoeconomic modelling, budget impact assessment

  • Result oriented with strong strategic thinking skills, demonstrated ability to create negotiation strategy

  • Proficient in drafting/reviewing and binding legal agreements

  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with demonstrated ability to create and deliver professional, and impactful presentations

  • Ability to be agile and have the capacity to work on multiple projects concurrently

  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment

  • Broad business acumen, strong decision making and problem solving skills

  • Advanced level of English and French required for Quebec applicants

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
