The Regulatory Reporting team manages and oversees financial regulatory reporting for the Bank and assigned subsidiaries.  This includes: governance of the process, including monitoring all Bank compliance with filing requirements; change and project management for new or enhanced returns; relationship management with regulators (e.g. Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions, Bank of Canada, and Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation), internal information providers and other stakeholders (such as the Canadian Bankers Association); and, meeting monthly, quarterly and annual filing requirements for the team’s returns.  

Senior Analyst – Regulatory Reporting prepares and submits a subset of the team’s returns ensuring complete, accurate and timely completion in accordance with instructions provided by regulators as well as established procedures and deadlines.  This includes review of variances and other unusual items with escalation and explanation to management and regulators, as required.  It also includes interaction with internal data providers to ensure data meets filing requirements.  The incumbent is also expected to source new data as required for changes to existing returns or new returns assigned.
 

Key Accountabilities:

Regulatory Reporting

  • Manage the production of assigned regulatory returns at the Bank and/or subsidiary level ensuring completeness, accuracy and timely filing of all financial reports with the Regulators (e.g., OSFI, Bank of Canada, Statistics Canada, CDIC), and keeping abreast of regulatory changes.
  • Interpret and implement new reporting requirements and manage the implementation of system and procedural changes to ensure compliance with new regulatory requirements.

Financial Reporting

  • Manage the production of information for assigned financial statements notes ensuring that procedures and processes reflect the latest requirements and ensure adequate controls exist to validate the accuracy and completeness of the disclosures.

Accounting and Other Initiatives

  • Participate, as required, in accounting and other initiatives impacting financial regulatory filings, including new or enhanced systems, changes in accounting standards, new products or acquisitions and disposals.  Participate in automation project to assess and validate datapoint to ensure they are complete and accurate; perform UAT to identify any gaps.  

SOX Compliance/Process Improvements

  • As a SOX process owner for stated responsibilities, ensure strong process controls are implemented and documentation is prepared and updated regularly for Financial and Regulatory processes.  On an ongoing basis, ensure processes are reviewed regularly and enhanced where required.

Change Management:

  • Embrace and drive change as required. Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and propose changes to the management. 

Other projects and initiatives as required.

  • Manage ad- hoc projects as assigned by the management or other areas in the group

 

Experience / Education:

•    Post-secondary education with specialization in Accounting or Finance/ Business degree
•    Pursing an accounting designation and/or prior experience working in a regulatory reporting environment will be an asset
•    Knowledge of IFRS and financial regulatory requirements with strong understanding of financial and management accounting principles
•    High level of analytical, conceptual and problem- solving skills
•    Good knowledge of regulatory requirements, with ability to adapt as requirements change
•    Ability to juggle with conflicting priorities, time and resources
•    Good time management and organizational skills with the ability to work under tight time constraints
•    Solid communication and interpersonal skills
•    Good team building skills, working with diverse groups to resolve issues and identify efficiencies
•    Ability to develop and leverage strong relationships with key business partners such as GRM, GFT, and Compliance etc.
•    Strong PC skills with emphasis on Excel, PowerPoint and Word
•    Sound knowledge of the Bank’s reporting systems such as OBI/EGL/RRS
•    Ability to understand controls in and around systems, ensuring implementation of changes, on going maintenance or strengthening of the control environment
