Role Summary

Be part of an exciting and challenging opportunity by helping to accelerate the growth and application of data analytics capabilities at Sun Life Canada. As part of the Financial Operations Data & Analytics team within Sun Life Canada's Finance business unit, you will have an opportunity to be at the forefront of applying data and analytics to tackle business problems and helping Sun Life use analytics to deliver on our purpose of helping our Clients achieve lifetime financial security and live healthier lives. As a Senior Data Analyst, you will focus on leading the evolution of business intelligence, client and advisor insights, and predictive analytics across multiple Financial Operations teams.

What will you do?

Financial Operations Projects & Modelling (80%)

  • Build foundational data structures to support advanced analytics functions, reporting, strategic initiatives, and complex business solutioning

  • Support analytic work through the entire engagement life cycle including requirements specification, analysis, design, development, implementation and consulting efforts. 

  • Ability to draw out business insights from analytical output and work with team leads to put together business recommendations

  • Automate recurring tasks to free up capacity. Find efficient ways of working

  • Work with stakeholders across Sun Life as a subject matter expert in Distribution Compensation data

  • Leverage internal training, peers and other sources to continue to grow capabilities

Data Governance (20%)

  • Complete testing and validation practices to align End-User-Computing (EUC) guidelines to ensure foundational data sources are executing as expected

  • Develop and enforce the Financial Operations Data & Analytics operating model and the infrastructure, best practices, governance, and management

What will you need to succeed?

  • A relevant academic background, such as an undergraduate or graduate degree in a field lending itself to successfully understanding and supporting Data & Analytics (i.e. analytics, business, econometrics, mathematics, statistics, computer science etc.)

  • 5+ years of Quantitative analysis experience, including handling, manipulating and analyzing data and creating analytical reports

  • 3 + years with Advanced SQL, Python, Excel skills required

  • 3+ years of Tableau or other BI development experience in designing dashboards/ decision enablement tools

  • Ability to design meaningful business analyses

  • Proven balance of analytical and creative problem solving skills

  • Must be able to effectively communication complex results to a business audience not familiar with complex data and analytics

  • Ability to distill complex technical information into the key points that matter to the audience

  • Demonstrate an owner's mindset when approaching work, including prioritizing efforts, owning the work plan, and keeping key stakeholders informed

  • Able to think with agility in meeting business partners' demanding deadlines

  • Ability to move with minimum effort from detailed diagnostic thinking to higher level, opportunity-oriented thinking and to integrate the best from both into contributions and deliverables

What will be nice to have?

  • Micro automation or process automation experience

  • SAS EG or SAS mainframe experience would be beneficial

  • Past experience in life insurance / wealth management, other financial services industry components (e.g., retail banking, credit card, properly and casualty insurance), or distribution

  • Experience with agile or design driven development of analytics applications

  • PMP or scrum master certification

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
