Purpose
 

Contributes to the overall success of Canadian Banking Finance, ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

 

Key Accountabilities 

 

  • Operate as the lead and subject matter expert on Balance Sheet, including performing in-depth financial analysis to support strategic balance sheet management and initiatives to improve the Canadian Bank’s profitability
  • Assist in operational and production activities, including support, review and assessment of the reasonability of assumptions/commentary including Balance Sheet & profitability analysis, forecasting, Enterprise Wide Stress Testing (EWST)
  • Assist in developing financial projections & models to forecast the profitability of the Canadian Bank from a top-down perspective, which will include interpreting financial data across business lines / product areas and incorporating the most recent economic information, in order to provide timely guidance towards achieving the Canadian Bank’s longer-term financial performance targets
  • Develop strong fundamental knowledge about various FTP components / methodologies, implement, operationalize and assess continued suitability as well as communicate methodology changes and the resulting impact
  • Support stakeholder relationship management with key business partners, including business lines, product groups, Global Risk Management, Treasury, Capital Management and EO Finance
  • Work closely with other teams in Canadian Banking Finance, in order to provide additional resourcing and support for special projects or during periods of peak demand
  • Maintain an effective system of internal controls over the planning, forecasting and reporting processes for interest profit and ensure that any EUC requirements and SOX controls are addressed
  • Leverage digital solutions to seek ways to enhance the balance sheet and interest profit planning and forecasting processes by streamlining operational and analytical processes, reducing operational risk, improving the effectiveness, and resolving issues related to data consistency among various systems and processes
  • Champion a high performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment
  • Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
     

Experience / Education:

 

  • MBA, CFA, MFin or CPA preferred
  • Strong technical skills including strong modelling skills
  • Relevant experience at a financial institution, preferably with knowledge in margin analysis, funds transfer pricing and risk management; additional knowledge or experience with Canadian Banking Retail and Commercial banking products considered an asset in this role
