Global Banking and Markets

 

Global Banking & Markets provides a full range of investment banking, credit and risk management products and services relevant to the financing and strategic development needs of our clients. Our products include debt and equity financing, mergers & acquisitions, corporate banking, institutional equity sales, trading and research, fixed income products, derivatives, energy, foreign exchange, and precious & metals. We also cross-sell the full range of wholesale products and services offered by the Scotiabank Group.

 

Purpose

 

Contributes to the overall success of Global Wholesale Operations (GWO) by leading and overseeing the delivery of Trade Finance business strategies, plans and those initiatives are executed in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures in Canada, Europe and USA and Asia. 

GWO is an essential part of the Global Banking Market (GBM) infrastructure that enables GBM and other business partners to meet their strategic objectives by designing and executing operational processes that compliment business needs, manage risk, and comply with regulatory obligations throughout the client and trade lifecycles.   We continue to strive and achieve our strategies and priorities by embracing the organization values; Respective, Integrity, Accountability and Passion.

 

Accountability

 

  • Critical to the success of the role will be the ability to lead initiatives and to lead a team that conduct data analysis and reporting
  • There are several initiatives related to trade processing that affects the entire operation and this individual would lead a team to review/document current and ‘to be’ processes to drive the TOM.
  • This individual will also be responsible to determine and measure SLA’s and KPI’s as related to business operations
  • There is a change lead component to the role, which encompasses strong communication and training plans to smoothen transition and ensure adoption
  • The incumbent needs to be familiar with reporting tools such as PowerBI, Tableau or Business Objects to consume large data feeds and deliver impactful and insightful reports for business management
  • Ideally the candidate will have experience in leading teams in a dynamic environment
  • Continually acquire and enhance knowledge of the Division's business strategies and policies, risk management practices and methodologies, product offerings, financial markets, financial instruments, regulatory requirements, Back Office processes, and rapidly changing technology to be able to provide effective business solutions and services to the Trade Finance business line.
  • Complete competitive / business environment research and benchmarking to determine emerging issues and trends and analyze the impact / implications of those trends on the Bank's strategic plan
  • Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment, communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team

 

Requirements

 

To succeed in the role, the successful candidate must be equipped with the following behavioural and technical skillset:

  • Familiar with Business Process Design and workflow documentation
  • Working knowledge of data visualization tools and mapping/creating of data sets designed to support and drive impactful reporting
  • Experience in Change Management
  • Knowledge of Trade Finance Products
  • Self-motivated; work both independently and collaboratively with multi-functional teams, as both a leader and member 
  • Inquisitive with a strong sense of curiosity
  • Effective execution skills to ensure the successful delivery/implementation of projects/strategies.  Strong project management skills 
  • Strong presentation and written communication skills 
  • Ability to deliver results in a fast-paced, challenging, and dynamic business environment
  • Superior interpersonal skills, leadership, and influential capabilities
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel, Word, Power Point and PowerBi

 

Working Conditions

 

With Covid-19 in play and depending on local regulatory requirements, candidate will have a hybrid working environment (Work/Office) and will follow the HR policies in the based location. Due to the nature of the business, there will be occasional late hours for interaction with stakeholders in different regions
