Your Opportunity

The primary role for the Junior/Intermediate Structural Engineer is to support the Structural department with the completion of structural designs for energy and resource projects.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare structural steel, concrete and foundation calculation packages under the supervision of a senior engineer
  • Manage completion of drawings through drafting department in a time and cost-efficient manner
  • Assist with discipline assessments
  • Utilize applicable technical knowledge to add value to projects
  • Strengthen technical knowledge through on-the-job, informal and formal training
  • Ensure appropriate reference material is utilized at all times
  • Establish and maintain positive client relationships
  • Strengthen project management knowledge
  • Coordinate and organize discipline projects such as geotechnical and survey programs, and buildings procurement
  • Participate in Structural discipline meetings and project meetings
  • Liaise with other engineering departments
  • Ensure all work is completed with safety of paramount concern
  • Comply with Stantec's EH&S program, with a focus on safety in the field
  • Utilize in-house methods of quality control to complete projects

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) status recognized by APEGA
  • Experienced with Canadian and other relevant standards, practices and applicable legislation
  • Ability to prepare well organized calculation packages for checking by senior engineer
  • Ability to develop structural designs from concept through to completion both independently and with the support of senior staff when appropriate
  • Prepare sketches and drawing mark-ups for drafting department
  • Utilize structural analysis software (e.g. STAAD, S-Frame) to support design development
  • An understanding of project management and controls processes for civil projects
  • Strong technical skills, with focus on accurate design calculations and analysis
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, analytical and problem-solving skills are essential
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office suite of applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook and Teams.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Civil Engineering, Master of Engineering (MEng) in Civil Engineering, or Master of Science (MSc) in Civil Engineering.
  • 4 to 10 years of relevant industry experience
