Intern, 4th Class Power Engineer - Building Technician

BGIS is looking for committed, curious self-starters who are currently in college/cégep who are interested in the world of facilities management and building operations. Facilities management is BGIS’ bread and butter, and focuses on how we can maintain buildings through their lifecycle, engage with its tenants and create memorable customer experiences, and make the experience of working in that building as functional and problem-free as possible.

Start from the ground up as a Technician I, who is responsible in assisting the senior technical team in performing routine and on-demand maintenance services on non-technical facility components (i.e. walls, floors, minor housekeeping). The Technician I is also responsible for performing work in accordance with established processes and practices and for complying with internal and external requirements including but not limited to environmental, mechanical, health and safety, and fire protection.

Contract duration: 4 months

Start date: early May

Location: on-site, Edmonton

 

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs work in accordance with established processes and practices
  • Complies with all internal and external requirements including but not limited to environmental, health and safety, fire protection
  • Performs regular facility, non-technical component monitoring, maintenance and inspection
  • Provides observations about facility, non-technical component conditions and deficiencies, and provides suggestions for enhancements and repair
  • Monitors assigned facility by conducting facility walkthroughs and component monitoring and inspection
  • Responds to routine and on-demand service requests
  • Performs maintenance on non-technical components within the facility (i.e. walls, floors, minor housekeeping, etc)
  • Records resolution data within service maintenance management database. Ensures work completed meets quality, contract response and all other requirements
  • Receives, tracks, monitors and reports status of maintenance work within service maintenance management database. Initiates documents to obtain formal approval of work required
  • Assists in the implementation of preventative maintenance program.  Ensures that deficiencies are identified, recorded and escalated, and that related documentations are maintained
  • Participates in and assists with facility-related projects
  • Ensures the manner in which work is performed is in compliant with corporate and legislated policies, procedures, practices and guidelines related to environmental, health and safety, fire protection and any other applicable requirements
  • Maintains all assigned tools and arranges for repair and replacement where required
  • Submits all expenditures on a timely basis
  • Assists in enhancing tenant and customer satisfaction and maintaining positive relations through manner in which work is performed and services delivered
  • Assist with administrative duties
  • Other duties as assigned

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION: Enrolled in a college or Cégep program and a High School diploma; no trade certification/license required

JOB-RELATED EXPERIENCE: Interest in facility management, building operations and maintenance

 

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Ability to research, learn and gain greater proficiency in applying the following on-the-job – fire, life, safety and building codes and standards
  • Possesses a strong environmental, health and safety mindset.  Ability to perform work in a safe manner
  • Strong client-service orientation along with a high sense of urgency
  • Effective communication skills for the purpose of data relay, exchange, feedback, and clarification
  • Bilingual (English/French) is an asset

Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation

  • None required
  • Demonstrates an interest in enrolling and completing a trades certification or license
  • Must meet security clearance requirements and be able to wear personal protective equipment
