The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) is seeking technical experts for the inspection of electrical equipment (CSA/SPE-1000) and medical electrical equipment (CSA/SPE-3000) to support SCC’s Inspection Body Accreditation Program on a contractual basis.


Technical experts play a key role to assess inspection bodies by applying their extensive technical expertise to evaluate the competence of personnel, and the conformity of processes. They apply their considerable technical expertise by conducting file reviews, interviews with inspection body personnel and witness audits to support accreditation assessments.


Key Activities

• Work closely with the SCC lead assessor to determine the scope and criteria to be assessed
• Conduct interviews as part of a team, or independently, to assess the competence of personnel
• Review inspection body records to assess evidence of conformity with relevant criteria
• Observe the work of inspection body personnel to assess the conformity to procedures and application of relevant criteria
• Report to the Lead Assessor on findings and provide recommendations based on evidence

Canadian Citizen/Permanent Resident/Work VISA for the duration of the contract

Various: bilingual imperative, French imperative, English imperative


Required Technical Knowledge


SCC is seeking individuals with specialized expertise in one or both of the following technical areas. Please specify your technical area(s) in your application.


Electrical Equipment (CSA/SPE-1000)

• Advanced understanding of:
◦ CSA Model Code SPE-1000
◦ Canadian Electrical Code (CE Code Part I)
◦ Applicable electrical safety product standards (CE Code Part II)
• Understanding the business environment of bodies conducting special inspections of electrical equipment
• Understanding of the special inspection process in Canada
• Understanding the laws and regulations governing field inspection or special inspection in Canada
• At least five years of hands-on experience or deep knowledge of CSA/SPE-1000 model code

Medical Electrical Equipment (CSA/SPE-3000)

• Advanced understanding of:
◦ CSA Model Code SPE-3000
◦ Canadian Electrical Code (CE Code Part I)
◦ The applicable electrical safety product standards (CE Code Part II)
• Understanding of the business environment of bodies conducting special inspections of electrical equipment
• Understanding of the special inspection process in Canada
• Understanding of the laws and regulations governing field inspection or special inspection in Canada
• At least five years of hands-on experience or deep knowledge of CSA/SPE-3000 model code

• Strong technical, analytical and review skills
• Excellent attention to detail
• Sound judgement and evaluation abilities
• Ability to read, interpret and reference relevant criteria from standards
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Strong organizational and prioritization skills
• Strong interpersonal skills, both within an assessment team, and with customers
• Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications, and familiar with information and communication technology (e.g. web-based communications software); comfortable conducting remote assessments

Abilities

• Work with limited supervision
• Effectively represent SCC and follow SCC’s policies and procedures
• Meet tight deadlines and work under pressure
• Availability to travel within Canada and the United States, occasionally on short notice
• Ability to work in a variety of industrial, commercial and manufacturing environments
