The Decision Scientist is an integral member of the Decision Science team under the broader direction of the MD Client Insight and Business Intelligence team.

 

The Decision Scientist will collaborate with members of the Decision Science team, the Enterprise Data Warehouse, and various operational groups across the business to deliver end-to-end analytical products. This role will be accountable for gathering requirements, determining most appropriate solution(s), and developing custom data sources and/or visualizations.  This role also actively pursues a deeper understanding of key business drivers and will be encouraged to explore creative strategies to drive success across the enterprise.

Accountabilities

Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge

Leads the creation and maintenance of compelling data visualizations and dashboards to deliver insights about the business

Works directly with stakeholders and senior management to understand their business problems and drives enterprise action through reporting and data automation tools

Answers complex analytical questions in an intuitive and understandable way, and confidently communicates the results to a variety of audiences

Masters our business and data environment to become an expert problem-solver using advanced data modeling techniques

Manages crucial aspects of organizational data quality, contributes to data documentation, quality assurance, and sharing of best practices across the enterprise

Understands how MD’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions

Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk

 

Education & Experience

An undergraduate degree in a related field: Economics, Statistics, Business, Computer Science, Statistics, or equivalent work experience

2-4 years of analytics experience: skilled at using data to answer complex problems and can demonstrate this

3+ years of business experience relating data to business operations and understanding the link between business goals, corporate results and KPIs

Experience working with complex data across a variety of data sources, such as relational databases, data warehouses, text files, and web data (APIs)

Experience presenting and communicating results to a variety of audiences.

Experience translating complex requirements into clear, concise, and actionable strategies

Expert ability to manipulate data and create compelling visuals or analyses using tools such as Tableau, Alteryx, PowerBI, Python/R, etc.

Demonstrated ability to prioritize/communicate conflicting demands in a fast-paced environment

Business Acumen: you work to understand the business drivers and can quickly grasp the nature of underlying business problems and how you might use data to help solve them

You are an outstanding communicator: you actively listen, minimal use of jargon, and are easily understood even when speaking with non-technical people

You pride yourself on getting things done and can navigate barriers and complexity in delivering

Self-starter: ability to work independently, balance multiple priorities and deliver on commitments

Strong inter-personal skills, ability to work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders across the entire business

Hands-on experience with Tableau, PowerBI, SQL, Alteryx and/or open-source tools/web libraries

Financial industry knowledge and experience

 

Working Conditions

Remote work from anywhere in Canada with occasional travel to Ottawa
