The Director, Experience Design Strategy leads strategy development of place-based digital experiences to enable client’s objectives, driving more relevant customer engagement and prove ROI on their digital screen investments. The Director, EDS oversees research, content strategy and product design teams, while closely collaborating with accounts, business development, innovation, product and technology groups to activate the vision.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Partner with Account Services and Business Development teams to identify new business opportunities, uncover client objectives, develop and recommend experience design strategies (e.g. Lead the experience design process by scoping experience design work and facilitating strategy discovery sessions with clients).
  • Oversee Content Strategy and Content Optimization Programs
  • Oversee product design and partners with Product Team to analyse and improve product usability and design
  • Drives strategic approach to testing and measurement with internal teams (Product, Accounts, Data Analytics) and external stakeholders (Clients); Defines Content Optimization approach.
  • Oversee experience design research, as conducted by qualitative (e.g. Market Researchers) and quantitative researchers (e.g. Data Analysts, UX researchers) to define study design, methodologies and KPIs.
  • Lead cross-disciplinary idea generation with internal teams and/or client co-creation sessions, workshops and design sprints
  • Manage and mentor members of the Experience Design team; Continually asses and evolve frameworks, process and toolkits for the experience design practice to align with organization and customer goals
  • Be a thought leader and strategic partner, advising internal and external stakeholders on shifting industry landscape, experience design innovation and best practices


Who You Are:

  • Post-secondary / Bachelor’s degree in a design-related field (Digital Strategy, Human Centred Design, Service Design, Digital Media, etc.)
  • Human-Centered Design-related degree (as above) plus a business-related degree (MBA, MDes in Strategic Foresight, Innovation, etc.)
  • 7-10 + years of related experience in CX, Service Design, Digital Strategy, or a combination of the human-centred disciplines: XD, CX, UX, or customer strategy development. At least 5+ years in a people manager role.
  • Experience in client-facing roles (e.g. design agency) and working with cross-disciplinary teams on large-scale, long-term projects.
  • 3-5 + years leading a design practice with multi-disciplinary teams composed of design strategists and researchers, product and visual designers.
  • Experience with digital marketing retail projects, designing and measuring and optimizing digital experiences in physical spaces, working with data and technology capabilities in driving brand objectives
  • Experience in digital content strategy for retail / physical spaces
  • Proven ability to develop, and convert on new business relationships while collaborating closely with business development and account teams
  • Experience in choosing and managing vendors, contractors and other third-party provider to deliver experiences for client

  • Expert in design thinking / user-centered process, mindset and toolsets (e.g. journey mapping, persona creation, etc.)
  • Expert at consulting with external and internal stakeholders; strong listening, analytical and storytelling skills
  • Expert at participatory decision-making / facilitation of sessions such as discovery, ideation, problem framing, and synthesis
  • Solid knowledge and application of design research techniques especially A/B testing, contextual methods such as customer intercepts, contextual interviews, observation and surveys; knowledge of the application of data analytics and insights in research
  • Strong desire to understand human behaviour and create exceptional customer experiences
