The University of Windsor invites applications for the position of Head, Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures for a term of up to five (5) years, commencing July 1, 2022.  The candidate must hold a tenured position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at the University of Windsor and must be qualified to fulfil the duties and responsibilities of Head as stipulated in Schedule A of Senate Bylaw 5

The Department of Languages, Literatures & Cultures is a dynamic environment. We are engaged in exciting and important scholarship. The Department of Languages, Literatures & Cultures in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences has 12 full-time faculty and 3 sessional lecturers with broad research interests. We are searching for a scholarly leader of international standing who can invigorate our vision to be leaders in research and teaching, and foster an environment of shared governance, collegial collaboration, and broad participation by both faculty and students in the life of the department. Our ideal candidate will have exceptional credentials, including:

  • a PhD in Languages, Literatures & Cultures or cognate discipline;
  • a clear, innovative vision for extending our Department’s regional, national, and international reach in research, teaching, and community engagement;
  • demonstrated commitment to classroom experience at all levels;
  • demonstrated track record of publications and/or creative work in national and international peer-reviewed journals and venues;
  • a track record of integrating high quality research with high quality teaching;
  • commitment to mentoring junior faculty members and students; and
  • a vision for supporting a healthy, collegial work environment.

Application Requirements:

  • a letter of application including a statement describing the applicant’s continuing research program (up to 1 page) and a statement of teaching philosophy and academic program development experience (up to 1 page);
  • a detailed and current electronic curriculum vitae (E-CV);
  • a preliminary vision for the Department (up to 1 page);
  • a statement on Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Decolonization (up to 1 page) and;
  • three (3) letters of reference, sent by email directly to the Chair of the Search Committee by the referees (not by the candidate), with at least one (1) being internal to FAHSS.
