Your Opportunity

We have an opening working out of our Markham or Barrie office for a college or university graduate to be an integral part of our construction/contract administration team. In this position you will have the opportunity to work as part of a team of engineers and technologists on multiple projects at various stages in the development site work process, for a range of public and private sector clients. The Applicant must be self-motivated, eager to learn, and possess good computer skills. Attention to detail and accuracy are required as our prime role in the field is to ensure our engineering design is constructed in compliance with the design details, contract specifications, and the applicable municipal standards.

Your Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited in scope to:

  • Assist with or carry out construction quantity takeoffs, preparing tender documents and putting work out to tender for contractor bidding.
  • Carry out periodic or ongoing continuous inspections during earth grading activity and the installation of municipal services including sewers, precast concrete structures, watermains, and roads to ensure adherence by the contractor to all contract drawings, project specifications and applicable standards of the construction Contract.
  • Coordinate installation of utilities such as hydro, gas, telephone, and cable.
  • Carry out grade surveys of the installations to confirm design compliance.
  • Monitor/advise on the progress of construction projects operations and Contractor’s scheduled Work and liaise with clients, contractors and municipal agency staff on site, while preparing daily or weekly site reports.
  • Assist with the building permit acquisition process, and liaise with our client, the home builder, and municipal agencies from the start of the home building period through to the ultimate acceptance of the development infrastructure by the approval agencies such as Municipality, Region/County, and local Conservation Authority.
  • Carry out inspection of home builders lot grading and provide deficiency reports.
  • Prepare or assist with preparation of contractor payment certificates, change order processing, construction cost estimates, review of contractor’s time/material claims, etc.
  • Prepare various documents and records (construction progress reports, deficiency reports, etc.) required throughout the development construction process.
  • Assist senior Contract Administration field staff and Design Project Managers with other tasks as required throughout the life cycle of the project.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, analytical skill, be organized, and possession of a working knowledge of construction standards,
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office). A working knowledge of AutoCAD is an asset
  • Valid driver license and reliable car for daily travel within the GTA
  • Flexibility to work hours exceeding our core work week of 37.5 hours

Education and Experience

Graduate of a Civil, Environmental or Construction Engineering Technology program with a minimum 2 years of experience in a consulting engineering environment
