Global Banking and Markets

 

Global Banking & Markets provides a full range of investment banking, credit and risk management products and services relevant to the financing and strategic development needs of our clients. Our products include debt and equity financing, mergers & acquisitions, corporate banking, institutional equity sales, trading and research, fixed income products, derivatives, energy, foreign exchange, and precious & metals. We also cross-sell the full range of wholesale products and services offered by the Scotiabank Group.

 

Purpose

 

This role is part of the Global Wholesale Operations: Operations Change team, which supports change the bank initiatives across the organization.  GWO supports all Capital Markets related activity across the trade lifecycle. This individual will provide planning, control, and delivery aspects of project and change related initiatives in a fast-paced operations environment ensuring all requirements are delivered and tracking and escalations are managed in a manner appropriate for the assignment.

This individual will contribute to the overall success of the Operations Change team, ensuring individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed and delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

 

Accountabilities

 

  • Leads and manages project/initiatives as required.
  • Ensures that all projects and initiatives are planned, executed and tracked in accordance with agreed upon standards.
  • Work closely with the relevant Operations teams and leaders to ensure proper prioritization, resource allocation and cross-functional alignment.
  • Applies in-depth knowledge of existing relationships between GWO Utilities and technology infrastructures to coordinate and monitor for cross-utility interdependencies, contributions and efficiencies in operations and technology platforms to maximize resources and ensure projects are aligned with business line and Enterprise strategic objectives,
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Creates an environment in which the candidates team pursues effective and efficient operations of respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
  • Performs other duties as required.

 

Requirements

 

  • Superior organizational and leadership skills
  • In depth Capital Markets experience, specifically in a change the bank or project management capacity with a solid understanding of products, trade lifecycle and infrastructure
  • Experience and Subject matter expertise in the areas of Middle Office, Confirmations, Settlements and Operations Control functions
  • Demonstrated experience within a Securities related Operations environment considered an asset
  • Demonstrated experience of applied continued improvement and change management principles
  • Excellent understanding of products supported by GWO Utilities, and of operational processes, market practices and regulatory requirements pertaining to such.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and conflict-management skills to support a wide variety of internal stakeholders, technology partners and external vendors
  • Self-organizational skills and experience working with common business Applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, BlueWorks, PowerBI)
  • University degree in Finance, Business or related studies and a minimum of 3 years in Capital Markets and/or Project Management role

 

Working Conditions

 

  • Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are not a common occurrence.
  • No Travel Required
