Provides strategic support for International Banking Portfolio Management Office (IB PMO) function in International Banking Finance. The incumbent is responsible for contributing to the goals, plans, governance and execution of strategic initiatives in the IB Portfolio being delivered in support of the Bank’s business strategies and objectives.

 

Accountabilities 

  • Manages reviews of the IB Project Portfolio in terms of health, risks, issues and dependencies across all areas, including: 
    • Developing interactions with partners across multiple segments and business lines 
    • (e.g. Commercial / Corporate / Retail / Small Business / Wealth Management / Insurance)
    • Leading recurring meetings with the Divisional and Local teams to follow-up on strategic initiatives under their scope
    • Conducting complex analysis and articulating insights and recommendations on projects at risk and improvement opportunities
    • Leveraging knowledge of key technology platforms and branch/non-Branch systems (e.g. Scotia Pro, Scotia Globe, CRM etc.) and software programs, (i.e. MS Project, MS Office suite)
       
  • Actively identifies and addresses change requirements for processes and initiatives to improve IB’s business performance and portfolio governance 
  • Manages the delivery of the portfolio prioritization methodology by:
    • Directing the initial Opportunity Assessment process 
    • Conducting reviews to prioritize the portfolio based on alignment to the Bank’s strategic priorities and stakeholder requirements
    • Developing and articulating recommendations to improve business impact
       
  • Supports the implementation and management of portfolio management methodologies by:
    • Promoting skill development for stakeholders to keep the integrity of the PMO Framework
    • Acting as a trusted advisor and liaison with leaders and teams across Enterprise Governance, Enterprise Strategy and Local/Country’s Portfolio Management Offices, as well as Delivery/Project Managers
       
  • Support governance and approval process for Business and Strategic Investments, as required, including:
    • Supporting executives with preparation of materials and adherence to portfolio governance processes
    • Supporting and coordinating financial reviews and analysis of Strategic Investments and Business Cases
    • Conducting analyses to support funding committees with insights required for decision-making
    • Executing Post Implementation Reviews for IB initiatives
       
  • Manages the maintenance and deployment of portfolio management tool (CA PPM) and processes to provide a reliable, controlled environment for project and portfolio reporting, including
    • Supporting Delivery Managers with ongoing input into CA PPM 
    • Leading/supporting internal operational processes required for portfolio integrity (e.g., meta data and financials)
    • Directly contributing to the production of monthly/quarterly portfolio reporting in various formats (e.g. BI, PowerPoint, etc.)
       
  • Supports and encourages a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.  Provides service excellence through leadership and counsel to International Banking teams and local PMO’s, engaging in regular discussions improving the quality, effectiveness and efficiency of the project planning and execution:
    • Providing guidance and insight to local recommendations and portfolio management
    • Ensuring adherence to IB PMO and Enterprise minimum governance standards
       
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient planning and execution of IB Portfolio Projects, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct 
  • Develops day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicates the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout the team


Education & Experience Required: 

  • Project management, Lean, Six Sigma, process re-engineering, and operational expertise is an asset
  • Strong business acumen and organizational skills
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and conceptual problem-solving skills combined with outstanding business acumen and attention to detail
  • Exceptional organization and project management skills, with the ability and desire to work in a fast-paced, challenging, and dynamic environment 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal for interacting with offices with varying cross cultural and language differences
  • Advanced leadership skills in Building Strategic Relationships and Customer Focus
  • Desire to work in a hands-on team environment
  • Experience in CA PPM tool
  • Spanish language fluency is an asset
