This position requires many disparate skillsets including solution design; programming; network programming; database design; integration with other corporate systems; and ad-hoc reporting and analysis.

• Primary point of contact for Commercial applications related questions and issues
• Assist in designing solutions for business demands
• 24/7 support
• Create and present team changes to Change Management team
• Ensures reliable operations and maximal uptime
• Follow enterprise standards and policies

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

• Strong background in designing software solutions that meet business requirements
• Programming skills.  The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong proficiency in “low-level” programming, with an emphasis on correctness, simplicity, and performance.
• Strong communication skills.  The ideal candidate will communicate directly with business and technical stakeholders to identify needs, troubleshoot problems, collaborate on new designs, write technical documentation, and so on.
• Quick learner.  The ideal candidate will be comfortable acquiring new skills and knowledge; learning new languages/frameworks/etc.; quickly absorbing large, legacy codebases; and independently researching and implementing solutions to technical problems.
• Alignment with our values: safety above all else, stronger together, operational discipline, curiosity and lifelong learning, and act with integrity

Preference for:

• Microservices such as event driven (Kafka), Springboot, Web Services, Docker
• Other programming languages: Springboot 2, Java 11, some knowledge or experience in COBOL, JCL, CICS, and IMS
• Frontend frameworks such as Angular 8+ and Material Design
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines
• Proficiency with C#, .NET, SQL, DB2, MySQL
• Strong working knowledge of database concepts: indexing; query plans and query hints; locking; transaction isolation levels; normalization
• Proficiency with software development practices: version control; unit testing; performance profiling; debugging; reading and writing technical documentation
• Good knowledge of cloud services
• Computer Science degree or equivalent industry experience
• Proficiency in Microsoft O/S and M/S products
• Good communication, analytical, decision making and problem-solving skills
• Attention to detail and strong documentation skills

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

• You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
• Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
• Occasional after hours work required to provide production support
