General Accountability 
 

Oversees and supervises the work carried out in the Section (in stations, yards, facilities, repair shops, and throughout TTC properties). This involves the installation, maintenance, repair and testing of various electrical systems and/or equipment. The role will also entail administrative and supervisory duties such as training subordinate employees, timekeeping, scheduling, writing reports, budgeting, and liaising with internal and external parties. The role may include work with electronic and electrical equipment, power distribution equipment, and cables that provide traction power for streetcar services.
 

Key Job Functions 
 

  • Supervise the unionized workforce during all phases of inspection, installation, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting and repair work (including emergency work) carried out on new and existing overhead electrical systems and equipment
  • Inspect installations of new equipment and/or systems (i.e., electrical, technical, structural), test, and repair as necessary
  • Review, modify, and update or upgrade systems and databases on an on-going basis (both hardware and software) as new information relevant to work is introduced
  • Liaise with other colleagues, support staff, other departments, and potentially external customers or stakeholders concerning routine matters related to the work assigned
  • Develop and organize materials or procedures (i.e., technical manuals, supplier information)
  • Provide technical expertise, guidance, assistance and recommendations for the area of responsibility as needed
  • Ensure employees receive the necessary training to perform their job safely and training apprentices
  • Plan, adjust, and project work, schedules, costs, and systems as needed
  • Address environmental, safety, and other compliance issues related to operations in the Department or Section
  • Record information and communications (e.g., reports, estimates, employee-related documented, schedules, inventory) and store appropriately for Department use; distribute to the appropriate parties in accordance with established standards
  • Complete tasks in relation to managing people, including administrative duties along with approving/authorizing requests ensuring they are within established standards, related policies and compliance regulations
  • Promotes a respectful work and service environment that supports diversity, inclusion, and is free from harassment and discrimination. Helps to build an inclusive and accessible work and service environment for all employees and customers. Ensures the needs of employees and customers are accommodated in accordance with TTC’s commitments and obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC) and Related Orders, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and TTC’s policies.
  • Participate in the TTC Customer Service Ambassador Program.

Education and Experience 
 

  • Completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent
  • Possession of a Certificate of Qualification in a relevant electrical/electronics discipline is an asset.

 

Additional Requirements 
 

  • Thorough knowledge of the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical traction power cables and overhead suspension systems, track switch systems and associated equipment systems
  • Ability to supervise the activities of a group of unionized employees
  • Good understanding of the applicable regulations governing the maintenance of rail vehicles and applicable environmental regulations
  • Sound judgement, good problem solving, organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity of policies, legislation and regulations related to the work including safety, employment, etc.
  • Must possess a working knowledge of computers and computerized applications relating to the work
  • Must have a valid class “G” driver’s licence and will be required to upgrade to a class “DZ” licence; may be required to use your personal vehicle for work assignments
