The Screen Industries Research and Training Centre (SIRT) supports Ontario’s film, television and interactive media cluster. As a government funded Technology Access Centre, SIRT works with a dedicated staff, as well as faculty and students to conduct world-class applied research, training and other industry support activities that enable the adoption of new technology and business models for innovation. SIRT’s unique capacity through trusted partnerships with key industry organizations and technology leaders facilitates innovations within digital cinema, virtual and augmented reality, interactive media and artificial intelligence.
Reporting to the Production Lead, SIRT (Manager), the Film Production Specialist, SIRT (Specialist), is a part of an interdisciplinary team working on the development and application of technological innovations related to the film production workflow. The Specialist focuses on creative production and the development of custom interactive and engaging multimedia, technical support and training for industry staff and co-op students. This position is stationed at Toronto’s Pinewood Studio location.


What You’ll be Doing

  • Collaborating on all stages of creative development from conceptualization, prototyping, and designing and implementing digital, video, and animated materials;
  • Coordinating with key stakeholders on production activities (e.g., script writing, sketches, storyboarding, character design, animatics, pipelines, etc.);
  • Planning, coordinating and completing film production shoots with a strong emphasis on virtual production;
  • Collaborating with industry, peers and Manager to monitor and troubleshoot any technical issues;
  • Conducting technical research with industry regarding production hardware, software and acquiring a full understanding of how this technology would integrate into the production environment;
  • Mentoring work study and co-op students, and providing training and feedback on the use of production workflow with generated 3D avatars and environments;
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will also meet the following qualifications: 

  • A 3-year diploma/degree in Film Production or a related discipline, along with at least 3 years of demonstrated experience producing and editing 2D/3D, motion graphics illustrations and animations including modeling, rigging, shading, lighting, animating, complex dynamics, rendering and virtual production;
  • Experience and knowledge of AV Infrastructure, reality capture technology (i.e. laser scanning);
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere, and After Effects);
  • Experience with technical troubleshooting skills;
  • Experience in animation, games, film, or equivalent;
  • Experience in all levels of virtual and video production: storyboarding, filming, editing, etc. is considered an asset;
  • Experience producing 3D assets for VR/AR/MR is considered an asset.
