Summary:

As a Client Reporting Specialist in the Registered Products Team, reporting to the Senior Manager, Operations, you will be responsible for processes and procedures relating to the maintenance of Tax-Free Savings accounts, Registered Retirement Savings Plans, Registered Education Savings Plans, and Locked in Plans across all MD business lines. The Specialist must focus on ensuring that the various accountabilities are processed to the highest standards, while being compliant with all regulatory requirements under the Income Tax Act (overseen by Canada Revenue Agency) and various provincial acts.  The incumbent is responsible for production and submission of all relevant tax slips and tax filings related to registered accounts.

 

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and support tax production processes, including issuing of original and amended tax slips and packages, CRA Administrative Relief, and Non-Qualified securities
  • Develop and support effective communication channels among all the internal stakeholders (Taxation Services, Product Management, Technology and Compliance) in order to execute industry-related regulatory changes
  • Stay current and act as subject matter expert for both legislative and technical requirements for all registered plans, tax production and regulatory filing activities
  • Coach and mentor team members and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work
  • Be the primary escalation contact for all inquiries related to legislation, rules, policies and procedures for all types of registered products offered (RRSP, LRSP, LIRA, TFSA, RESP, etc.)
  • Review and resolve escalated issues related to complex withdrawals/transfers/transactions:   refunds of excess contributions, marriage breakdown transfers, home buyer’s and lifelong learning withdrawals, and RESP transactions and transfers
  • Complete and submit all regulatory filings, such as T550, T3GR, TFSA Information Return and Employee Benefit Plans
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

 

 

 

 

Education & Experience:

  • University degree or College diploma, preferably with a financial background;
  • 5 years’ experience in the Financial Services industry with an understanding of the rules regarding RESPs, RRSPs/RRIFs, TFSAs and non-registered investments and applicable tax-related issues;
  • Thorough understanding of all accounting and administrative policies and procedures as related to client transactions
  • Experience with client relationship management tools
  • Completion of the Canadian Securities Course is an asset
  • Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset.

 

Competency Requirements:

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, priorities and projects
  • Must be self-starter and independent task oriented, to work with minimum supervisor based on guidance from management.
  • Familiarity with regulatory/compliance aspects of RSPs, RIFs and RESP plans
  • Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Business education and/or investment industry experience. 
  • Ability to work effectively with others to achieve optimal outcome
  • Demonstrated initiative, resourcefulness and flexibility
  • Sound capacity to assess, develop and monitor complex business processes
