Your Opportunity

We seek talented, enthusiastic environmental scientists to work from our Burnaby, Sidney, or Terrace offices on projects across BC. The successful candidates will join our team of aquatic specialists working on freshwater and marine fish and fish habitat, water quality, and ecological restoration field programs and follow-up reporting. Individuals with qualifications beyond those described below are also encouraged to apply.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Complete field programs as a crew second in freshwater and marine environments.
  • Complete quality and completeness checks on field data.
  • Contribute to technical reports.
  • Prioritize safety in all tasks.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Experience and availability for regular fieldwork locally and in remote and challenging locations for up to 14 days at a time.
  • Familiarity with biological field methods, such as minnow trapping, beach seining, fish identification, sediment sampling, and the use of tools such as water quality meters.
  • Strong organizational and professional communication skills.

Education and Experience

  • Accreditation or eligibility for accreditation with the College of Applied Biology as a Registered Biology Technologist in Training or a Biologist in Training, or equivalent accreditation, is an asset but not required.
  • Minimum of two years of post-secondary education in an environmental field. Recent graduates (i.e., education programs completed between May 2021 and May 2022) are also eligible for this position.
  • The following are assets: electrofishing certificate; Occupational First Aid Level 1 certificate; UTV training; Pleasure Craft Operator Card.

This position will be hired initially for a four (4) month contract with the potential for extension, beginning by May 1, 2021.
