What you will do
Working alongside other Banking and Payments Specialist (BPS) covering the domestic operations, you will provide a variety of domestic payment, securities safekeeping and collateral management services for approximately 100 clients, including the Government of Canada, domestic financial institutions, other central banks and selected international institutions. In addition, a BPS processes transactions for the final settlement of clearing, payment and settlement systems, which includes Canada’s Real Time Gross Settlement system (Lynx), the Canadian Depository for Securities (CDSX), the Automated Clearing and Settlement System (ACSS) and the Note Exchange System (NES).


As a domestic day BPS, you will:

  • Process, monitor, control and balance a variety of payments, settlement, and securities transactions for clients.
  • Process daily operations in accordance with procedures and critical operational deadlines. 
  • Participate in the analysis of business processes, training, and problem resolution. 
  • Work in an operations-oriented, team-based environment with a strong client focus.

 

**This poster is for anticipatory staffing and will be used to fill positions that may come up throughout the year in our Ottawa office for term positions of 12 months or more**

 

What you need to succeed

  • Knowledge of banking operations, including payment, settlement services, collateral administration, and fiscal-agent responsibilities. 
  • General understanding of accounting principles. 
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to gather and resolve discrepancies in information. 
  • Ability to multi-task and make sound decisions and recommendations. 
  • Proven to organize work and set priorities to ensure that production schedules and deadlines are met. 
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment with minimum supervision. 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

 

Nice-to-have

  • Good knowledge of Canada's financial systems, including the ACSS, LYNX, and CDSX. 
  • Familiarity with an operational work environment and computerized applications such as Microsoft products (Word, Excel).

 

Your education and experience

  • This position requires bachelor's degree in commerce or business and a minimum of one year of relevant work experience processing payments and securities transactions for clients. 

or 

  • relevant college diploma (e.g., accounting, business administration) and a minimum of two years of relevant work experience processing payments and securities transactions for clients. 

or 

  • an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

 

What you need to know

  • Language requirement: English and French essential (bilingual) with a minimum starting level of functional (level 4) in second official language. Training may be provided to help reach the required level of fully functional (level 5) in second official language.

  • In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and further to public health guidelines, preventative measures are being taken to ensure health and safety during the recruitment process. All interviews are conducted virtually.  
  • Domestic day work schedule consists of a regular shift Monday to Friday from 6:30am to 2:30pm, and an extended shift Monday to Friday from 6:30am to 5:00pm.
  • The candidate will work the regular shift and at-least one extended shift per week.
  • The onboarding and training period will be a minimum of eight weeks.
  • The candidate will work a compliment of both onsite (Calgary Office) and from home. Please note that the ability to work onsite is a requirement due to the position being part of the Bank’s Critical Operations.

  • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $51,500 to $60,500 (job grade 12)
  • Depending on performance, you may be eligible for performance pay for successfully meeting (3 to 5% of your base salary) or for exceeding expectations (7% of your base salary). Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
