For the scope of LNG Canada Project, Closure Welds, as defined in Para. 345.2.3c of ASME B31.3, apply only at
the final Hook-up weld considering:
- All piping within Module boundaries will be Pressure Tested at Module Fabrication Yard(s)
- All Stick-Built piping will be Pressure Tested at Final Installation Site or at Spool Fabrication Shop(s)
- All Equipment will be Pressure Tested by the Equipment manufacturer.

Closure Welds are intended to be applicable only at the Final Installation Site. Any Closure Welds proposed in the
Module Fabrication Yard(s) or Spool Fabrication Shops(s) shall be agreed with the Company on a case by case
basis and, hence, is not included in the scope of this document.
Following are the scenarios where Closure Welds will be considered:
- Module Interfaces i.e. Module to Module Welds as well as Module to Stick-Built Welds.
- Stick-Built piping Spool to Non-Module Equipment welded nozzle connections, where Hydrostatic Testing
is not practicable or feasible.
- Stick-Built piping to Non-Module Equipment welded nozzle connections, where Pneumatic Testing cannot
be applied because of large exclusion zones and potential blast overpressure hazards.

The Closure Weld program supervisor shall be responsible for execution of the FCCL Closure Weld program as per the approved LNG Canada project technical specification and execution plan for closure welds. This position will be the primary interface with JFJV Site Closure Weld Execution Team.

Responsibilities as follows but are not limited to:
1- Plan and execute the Closure Weld scope in accordance with the Installation Work Package.
2- Work with FCCL workface planners to ensure Installation Work Packages are being developed for each module interface including mod-mod and mod-stick built piping where closure welds will be performed.
3- Ensure availability of suitably qualified craft to run continuous welding processes till completion of all Engineered Closure Welds. Work with FCCL site welding team to ensure welders with the lowest repair rates are being selected to execute closure welds.
4- Ensure services of the third party NDE Provider are being planned and scheduled.
5- Coordinate with FCCL Quality for availability of In-Process Examiner(s) for execution of Closure Welds. Ensure CW travel sheets and NDE records are being recorded into Weld Console.
6- Generate RFI’s and work with FCCL Quality to generate Construction Queries as situations arise.
7- Ensure pipefitters and welders are aware of the requirement that no ‘cold pulling’ is permitted during welding of Closure Welds. Work with FCCL area piping foremen and JFJV site CW Team on alternative methods to meet hook up requirements when out of tolerance situations occur.
8- Other duties as assigned.
