Job Description:

Sun Life’s Corporate Expense Management team works to oversee the management of more than $7B of annual expenditures.  The team works closely with key corporate finance areas and each of Sun Life’s Business Groups to support the completion of important financial deliverables and activities.  These include the: production, reporting and analysis of quarterly and annual expense numbers; planning, budgeting and forecasting of expense values; creation and execution of expense control and governance frameworks; and, the estimation and reporting of key initiative spend.  The team manages the development and execution of corporate expense allocations to Sun Life’s Business Groups

This role will report to the Director, Expense Management

What will you do?

  • Analyze and report on enterprise-wide consolidated expense variances to budget and prior reporting periods, providing accurate and insightful commentary

  • Coordinate key activities pertaining to the enterprise-wide annual Business Plan & Strategic Plan

  • Manage planning and expense production activities related to enterprise-wide long-term incentives and DB pension costs

  • Lead/co-lead/coordinate or otherwise support special projects aimed to addressing a specific need or issue and pertaining to efficient and effective expense management.  These special projects may be related to establishing and/or maintaining the governance structure, reporting protocol and KPIs attached to specific new or evolving initiatives.

  • Lead/co-lead or assist in the resolution of ad hoc requests for information and insights from senior leadership, responding in a complete and effective manner with a high sense or urgency.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Accounting designation (CPA/CMA/CA/CGA) with progressive experience within the financial management functions and proven track record of partnering with and influencing business units to drive results

  • Manages through complexity and ambiguity by maintaining focus, high energy, flexibility and positive ‘can-do’ attitude and ownership mindset

  • Attention to detail in order to ensure delivery of quality materials to an executive audience

  • Drives for action by acting with speed, decisiveness and sense of urgency. Assumes responsibility until the problem is solved.

  • Superior communication skills to share relevant information at the executive level in a compelling, succinct and diplomatic manner

  • An attitude of continuous improvement/ learning and always looking at successes and failure to devise alternate approaches

  • Experience developing Tableau Software dashboards would be an asset

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
