Your Opportunity

Our Environmental Services team is growing in British Columbia. We are looking for a leader in Mine Reclamation and Closure. As a subject matter expert in mine reclamation and closure, you will apply your technical and regulatory skillset help further grow and develop our cross-disciplinary team in British Columbia and collaborate with other Stantec experts nationally and globally. The role will require you manage and oversee individuals that work on mine closure and reclamation projects. Tasks will be project-based and include advising on project planning and execution as well as technical contributions to client deliverables including closure and reclamation plans, reclamation assessments, detailed site assessments, reclamation costing and financial liabilities assessment and direction of field programs. Other responsibilities will include client relationship development, budget and proposal development, training and mentorship of junior staff, and program management of schedules, budgets and client deliverables. This role is primarily focused on the mining sector and the successful candidate will part of an experienced technical mining team in British Columbia.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to reclamation and closure planning and permitting, including preparation of construction environmental management plans, conceptual reclamation plans, reclamation research program design, and implementation, and closure and reclamation plans
  • Carry out office duties such as data management, analysis, and interpretation; and report preparation, including environmental assessments and other permitting activities related to reclamation and closure of resource development activities
  • Plan and implement reclamation and closure monitoring and operational reclamation programs on large and small disturbance resource activities and direct multi-disciplinary team in the execution of project objectives
  • Construction monitoring for reclamation purposes
  • Provide technical guidance on closure and reclamation issues to clients and project teams
  • Provide oversight of field programs including risk management strategies for safe work, logistical and technical support
  • Develop and maintain client relationships
  • Manage task deadlines, budgets, and deliverables
  • Contribute to client relationship activities and prepare proposal scopes and budgets for remediation and/or reclamation works
  • Lead recruitment and hiring new staff including identifying candidates, reviewing resumes, and participating in interviews
  • Develop or facilitate coaching or mentoring relationships with team members to ensure their professional challenges are in line with their career plans and goals
  • Conduct Year-End Performance Reviews, mid-year reviews, and team ad-hoc check-ins (as needed)
  • Work with Stantec team to ensure training plans and performance targets are identified and met for individual team members

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • 12 years of relevant closure and reclamation related experience in British Columbia and/or western Canada (experience in British Columbia is an asset)
  • Ability to work with initiative, professionalism, and confidentiality, and can multi-task and adapt to change in a very dynamic environment
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to contribute to the development of technical documents
  • Strong remediation, reclamation, vegetation, and soils field skills in British Columbia
  • Experience and willingness to engage with clients and develop strong relationships to build client base and increase service offerings
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record required

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in ecology, soil science, physical geography, geology, engineering, land reclamation or related field is required and a Master’s degree is preferred

Fully qualified professional (e.g., Registered Professional Biologist, Geoscientist, Engineer or Agrologist) accreditation in British Columbia is required

Minimum of 12 years of experience as a Closure and Reclamation Specialist

Experience with closure and reclamation planning at all stages of projects from exploration or pre-feasibility through to closure

Experience working in remote locations

Field work may include work in remote environments, challenging terrain, and exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 pounds.
