Job Description:

Role Summary:

Reporting to the Director, Data and Analytics Services, the Senior Analytics Consultant will lead the development of innovative analytics solutions including transformation processes and complex data models that form the core of a new generation of analytics services and self-serve solutions for our customers in Canadian Operations.

In our fast growing Business Analytics team, there is a need for talented and passionate individuals to design, create, deploy, and evolve our data analytics platforms. Our growing mandate to deliver Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence and Data Solutions requires an experienced data consultant to accelerate the development of our strategic analytics projects in support of our business stakeholders.

What will you do?

  • Work directly with data engineers, business data analysts, data scientists and clients in Canadian Operations throughout the entire engagement life cycle including technical analysis, design, development, implementation and consulting efforts
  • Maintain best practice standards for analysis and reporting at all levels including data governance, documentation, testing and visualization techniques
  • Lead and drive projects and assignments to completion, including project planning and estimates
  • Facilitate group meetings of various sizes for solution design, decision making, problem-solving and solution implementation.
  • Turn complex data into easy to understand visual insights that are aligned to business objectives
  • Enable visual storytelling through Tableau and visual analytics tools

What will you need to succeed?

  • Minimum undergraduate degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent
  • Expertise in visual analytics and design principles
  • 3-5 years+ of experience in:
    • Solid skills in SQL, Python, C++, Java and other languages used in data manipulation
    • Solid understanding of data warehousing principles and experience in design and/or development using dimensional modeling principles
    • Tableau development experience and designing dashboards / decision enablement tools
    • Developing rich portfolio of design uses cases demonstrating excellent user experience
    • Working in an agile development environment including rapid prototyping
  • Solid understanding of data warehousing principles, architecture and its implementation in complex environments
  • Experience as designer of complex Dimensional data models for analytics services
  • Hands-on experience with development of ELT/ETL processes of large datasets from multiple sources
  • Experience with development for Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services or equivalent technologies
  • Visual design expertise with a solid understand of the best practices around dashboard and visual perception.
  • End-to-End development experience and ability to create complex calculations including Level of Detail (LOD) expressions, action filters, user filters and implement advanced dashboard practices in Tableau
  • Strong understanding of the economics of the business analytics value stream and the value proposition of analytics services
  • Ability to work independently and manage engagements directly with business partners
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and effective in delivering iterative solutions.
  • Solid understanding of how to consolidate and transform data to meaningful and actionable information
  • Ability to draw out meaningful business insights by synthesizing information from multiple sources
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with experience in relating complex concepts to non-technical users, including presentation and storytelling with data
  • Demonstrated experience in development of analytics applications or data analysis, including insights development and communication to senior leadership
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to exercise mature judgment
  • A willingness to listen, challenge, communicate, and respect team member's ideas and opinions openly

Unique Requirements

  • Must be able to attain Canadian Reliability Security Clearance (administered by submitting fingerprints to the RCMP, who then conduct min. 5 year history checks)

What will be nice to have?

  • Experience with R, Python, Matlab
  • Experience with Agile or design-driven development of analytics applications
  • PMP and/or Scrum Master certification
  • Experience with optimization and tuning of large data extracts for Tableau
  • Tableau desktop and server certification
  • Knowledge of Insurance or Financial Services industry

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
