Job Description:

Be part of an exciting and challenging opportunity to accelerate the growth and application of data analytics capabilities within the Human Resources Global Talent function.  Leading the data & analytics function within Global Talent, you will have the opportunity to be at the forefront of establishing a data, analytics and insights framework to tackle business problems.

The Senior Data Analyst will leverage both qualitative intelligence and quantitative data to collect, measure and identify opportunities to improve processes and the employee experience. The incumbent may be required to develop and lead internal, engage and acquire temporary resources for Global Talent’s high priority analytic workstreams.

 

What will you do?

  • Build foundational data structures to support advanced analytics functions, reporting, strategic initiatives, and complex business solutioning
  • Support analytic work through the entire engagement life cycle including requirements specification, analysis, design, development, implementation and consulting efforts. 
  • Ability to draw out business insights from analytical output and work with team leads to generate business recommendations
  • Automate recurring tasks to free up capacity and find efficient ways of developing streamlined / self-service dashboards and reporting
  • Work with stakeholders across Sun Life as a subject matter expert in Global Talent data
  • Leverage internal and external training, peers and other sources to continue to grow capabilities
  • Design and propose realistic solutions grounded in current resource availability, strategic priorities and existing culture, including draft timelines and work structures
  • Manage stakeholders, reporting on progress and incorporating new input: managing expectations, driving agreement on prioritization/sequencing, shaping the data agenda
  • Act as a dynamic change agent, “eschewing” a more data-centric approach to make business decisions

Data Governance & External Benchmarking

  • Acquire and maintains knowledge of key developments in the field, bringing insight to the organization and the Shared Services and Global Talent functions to continuously develop our metrics and analytics capabilities. This work includes research, development of business cases and recommendations for new tools and applications to help achieve our strategies
  • Develop and enforce the Data & Analytics operating model and the infrastructure, best practices, governance, and management for Global Talent teams

 

What do you need to succeed?

  • Bachelor’s degree in quantitative discipline or data visualization or equivalent work experience
  • Relevant experience designing analytical frameworks and predictive analytics
  • Strong knowledge of human resources information systems (i.e. Workday), database functionality, quantitative methods and behavioural decision science
  • Excellent knowledge of handling, manipulating and analyzing data and creating analytical reports using leading data analytic and visualization software tools (i.e. SAS, R, Python, Tableau, PoweBI, BI tools)
  • Ability to automate/develop complex reports &/or produce dashboards & scorecards & able to propose solutions to data issues
  • Good working knowledge of basic data warehousing concepts 
  • Superior communication and writing skills and the ability to effectively package and present information to senior business leaders and HR professionals (Intermediate-or-better PowerPoint and Word skills)
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity, organize and accomplish objectives independently and proactively
  • Strong project management skills, knowledge of change management strategies and ability to develop supporting tools and materials
  • Power-user of Excel, Access and VBA
  • Strong influencing and negotiating skills 
  • Curious, proactive mindset a must

 

What will be nice to have?

  • Micro automation or process automation experience
  • SAS EG or SAS mainframe experience would be beneficial
  • Past experience in Human Resources,  HRIS implementations, Business Analytics or data management

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
