PURPOSE OF POSITION:

 

The successful candidate will provide subject matter expertise on all freight rate publications and rating activities for CP. This will include actively working with all internal departments, including Marketing & Sales, to ensure timely and accurate freight invoicing through: timely rate maintenance, drilling into root cause, reducing downstream rework, and providing support and leadership to the Agreements and Publications Team.

 

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 

  • Responsible for maintaining the rebates/shipper allowances in the rating engines and any associated applications;
  • Liaise between various CP internal departments to resolve systematic rating issues;
  • Manage and improve Publications processes and documentation to ensure efficiency and consistency;
  • Ensure all new contracts, contract renewals and tariff rates are entered timely & accurately into appropriate CP rating systems, to ensure proper rating and to minimize un-invoiced revenue;
  • Ensure precise rating of Interline movements;
  • Work with CP Dispute & Interline Settlement Systems personnel in understanding and resolving systematic issues by developing solutions to reduce future opinions from other railroads;    
  • Lead various initiatives as a subject matter expert at CP’s Network Service Centre;  
  • Perform specialized system work on REN, Price Worksheet, Security Application, Contract Database, Fuel Surcharge Updates, Rebates, Midpoints, SOX Compliance audits and application testing;
  • Become a systems expert for the publications lifecycle: flow of information from publication of an agreement to seamless rating of a waybill and unrate/dispute resolution;
  • Provide Lead-to-Cash/Order-to-Rate Project support;
  • Perform, prepare and present analytics and reporting to Senior Leadership;
  • Gain solid knowledge and understanding of Canadian Transportation Agency, Association of American Railroads and Surface Transportation Board regulations and accounting practices associated with Freight, Intermodal, and Interline charges;
  • Perform Testing on the systems in support of the Agreements & Publications activities;
  • Protects CP’s assets & financials by adhering to SOX & Internal controls, understanding root cause, acting on information in a timely manner, and applying situational awareness;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Bachelor of Commerce, Business Administration or equivalent;
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of CP experience in commercial or transportation;
  • Demonstrated ability to drill down to root cause and lead the resolution of issues;
  • Ability to lead and influence others to deliver objectives;
  • Ability to apply situational awareness, judgment, innovation, persuasion, team building and influencing skills to advance the Agreements & Publications objectives;
  • Displays emotional intelligence, remaining calm under pressure and keeping an optimistic attitude in high-pressure situations;
  • A high proficiency in Microsoft applications and strong knowledge of CP operating systems (SAP, TMS, Price Worksheet) considered an asset.

Management Conductor Program:

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CP. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
