Description

Planning is problem solving. It’s about preparing communities today to thrive tomorrow. At Stantec, our planners tackle complex challenges with passion and purpose. And we bring that same passion to growing the potential of each professional who joins our Stantec community.

Your Opportunity

As a Planner within our Community Development business line, you will have the opportunity to work on a range of planning and development projects. These projects will include seeking development approvals from a broad number of large and small municipalities; such approvals could include official plan and/or zoning by-law amendments, plan of subdivision and condominium, minor variances, severances, and site plan control applications. We often work directly for municipalities including new and updates of official plans, community improvement plans, parks and recreation master plans and other special municipal planning studies. We also work in the realm of urban design which includes designs for streetscapes and other urban areas, as well as transit and pedestrian-oriented developments. Our highly experienced, multidisciplinary team specializes in urban planning and design that integrates architecture, landscape, engineering, and sustainability. We connect the people, places, and resources that take a project from concept to reality and our goal in doing so is to build community.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • As a member of the project team you will prepare technical reports, studies, and memoranda including due diligence assessments, highest and best use reports, planning justification reports/rationales, agendas, meeting minutes, etc.
  • Perform project coordination, file management, and progress work on a wide variety and scale of multidisciplinary projects.
  • Prepare drawings, graphics, plans, and other design elements.

  • Perform due diligence and research on projects as required to provide the background information to start a new project.
  • Calculate project costs and undertake forecasts of future trends related to land use and development efforts.
  • Work within defined project scopes, budgets, and schedules.
  • Attend, present, and compile notes at meetings, hearings, and public events in support of the project team.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature and level, as assigned.
