About our Communauté Braindate Community Events

Tired of missing out on webinars because they don’t suit your schedule or don’t accommodate your time zone? Pride at Work Canada’s bi-monthly Communauté Braindate Community events provide the opportunity to meet and learn from other members of our Proud Partner and Community Partner networks through meaningful conversations, all on your own schedule!

Braindate is a video chat networking platform where users join one-on-one or group video chat sessions created by others on the platform based on topics that they’re eager to discuss. On the Braindate platform, you will be able to browse a list of topics posted by other users and join the conversations that interest you most and suit your schedule. If you’re seeking advice or have a subject you’re itching to discuss with other members of the Pride at Work Canada community, you can post your own topic too.

Here’s what to do:
  1. Log into Braindate to create your profile: details will be sent to the email you register with.
  2. Explore the Topic Market: participants (and you, too!) post braindate topics here related to discussions they’d like to have with others during the event. You can invite anyone to meet based on their topic!
  3. Create topics: post braindate topics about discussions you’d like to have. This is your opportunity to share your knowledge, experiences, and expertise!
  4. Book your braindates: send invitations to meet others to discuss their topics, and accept the invitations you receive. Once confirmed, your braindates will take place virtually right on the platform.
  5. Get started!

What topic should I post?

Post a topic related to something you’re interested in learning more about, or that you have experience with and would like to share with others. Keep in mind that all participants are either Proud Partners or Community Partners, consider what topics this audience might be interested in. Examples of topics posted previously include: Creating Economic Justice Through HR Practices for SOGIE Communities, How Sharing Personal Stories at Work Can Strengthen Employee Engagement, If You Want to Talk About Entrepreneurship and Diversity, Let’s Connect!

Is this a presentation?

There is a share-screen function on the platform, which allows you to share a presentation if you choose. You’re not expected to host a presentation as the type of conversation you’d like to have is all up to you. The platform allows you to indicate what kind of discussion you’re planning to host, options include: brainstorming, ask-me-anything, general discussion, and more!

Do I have to attend the event all day?

No, users post and join topics based on what suits their schedule within the time frame of the event (usually 10am – 6pm ET). Each session runs 30 – 45 minutes, and you’re welcome to participate in as many sessions as you’d like. If you have some time on a lunch break or between meetings, stop by to say hi!

What do I have to do if I host a Braindate?

Whether it’s a one-on-one or group braindate, keep the following 5 tips in mind to lead a meaningful braindate for everyone involved:

  1. Make sure everyone introduces themselves and contributes to the discussion.
  2. Ask the participant(s) what interested them about the topic.
  3. Be transparent and honest about your own experience related to the topic: You don’t need to be an expert to lead a braindate.
  4. Don’t forget that everyone has something interesting they can add to the conversation: adopt a beginner’s mindset.
  5. Don’t forget to share contact information. Many great relationships started with a simple conversation.
