SUMMARY

The Engineering Specialist performs assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks. Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare mechanical equipment replacements (typically boilers, AHUs, RTUs)
  • Prepare mechanical designs for small to medium commercial facilities.
  • Prepare drawings, schematics, specification reports and proposals as required.
  • Work with project team to ensure on-time project completion.
  • Provide technical and administrative support through all phases of the project.
  • Participate in meetings, prepare agendas and minutes.
  • Work collaboratively with the commissioning and building performance teams to collaboratively solve mechanical system issues.
  • Prepare mechanical tenant fit up and retrofit designs (RTU’s, Boilers, ductwork, plumbing, etc)
  • Prepare mechanical systems assessments for systems in existing buildings
  • Prepare mechanical systems design for new buildings
  • Prepare energy assessments/Audits of existing buildings
  • Review of mechanical designs

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering or equivalent with 5-7 years of professional experience
  • Professional Engineer P.Eng. (Preferred)
  • Have knowledge and experience using industry standard computer software including AutoCAD to prepare mechanical drawings.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of Mechanical Engineering requirement, Ontario Building Code (OBC), and other relevant standards
  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly to perform interdisciplinary coordination with Electrical, Structural and Architectural disciplines per project requirement
  • Excellent written skills with the ability to prepare meeting minutes, report writing and technical memorandums
  • Perform individually or as a team member with mechanical discipline and under direct supervision of Senior Engineers
  • Minimum two years utilities related experience with focus on HVAC systems
  • Driver’s License
