Part Time Instructor
 
The School of Nursing invites applications for a part time (sessional) teaching position to be offered in the 2021-22 academic year (Spring/Summer Session).
 
JOB AND ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
 
Course Details
 
The applicant will be responsible for teaching the Northern Community Nursing Practice course in the BScN program. This includes delivery of lecture and tutorial materials, and overseeing the administrative components of the course, (e.g., grading, office hours and student accommodations). Lectures will be delivered onsite at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario.
 
 
 
This course will enhance students’ knowledge about the role of Northern Community Health Nurses (CHNs) in meeting the healthcare needs of Canadian Indigenous peoples. Students will conduct an exploration of individuals, families, and communities who identify as Inuit from the northern territory of Nunavut, Canada. This area of nursing practice involves integrating theoretical and scientific knowledge from nursing, social sciences, public health, and primary health care to effectively deliver care in diverse settings. 
 
 
 
Compensation
 
The Teaching Stipend per course (per term) ranges between $5,500 – $10,200. The weekly hours of work will be determined and discussed during the recruitment process and are course specific. 
 
Required Qualifications It is preferred that applicants hold a Masters in Nursing or a relevant health related discipline. A PhD in Nursing or a relevant health related discipline would be considered an asset. Strong communication skills are required. Expertise in cultural competence and safety Eligible candidates must be registered in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario. The successful applicant will have previous experience teaching at the university level and/or appropriate academic qualifications. Previous university teaching experience is preferred. Lived knowledge of the traditional lifestyle of Indigenous peoples and lived understanding of Indigenous cultural beliefs and values is an asset Experience in Northern Community Nursing with the Indigenous population is an asset.
