In this role, you will be accountable for supporting our Suncor Pipeline assets by improving the reliability through the enhancement and implementation of reliability systems and procedures. Evaluation of new technology and new ideas to optimize the reliability of our preventative maintenance program and maximize cost-effectiveness.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Build strong positive relationships with diverse groups through day-to-day reliability plant support with a continuous focus on safe, reliable, and efficient operation
  • Provide technical direction for new plant start-up (PSSR) and on-going plant operations
  • Craft and implement pipelines programs like criticality assessments, asset strategies and plant maintenance programs that support the reliability plan
  • Recommend and implement practices and provide both strategic and tactical advice about equipment to improve reliability
  • Develop ESDS’s during equipment change and strategy reviews. Provide Guidance TO Project team on development ensuing proper alignment to current systems.
  • Recommend creative solutions / practices that eliminate unsafe working conditions and work of low value
  • Assure the integrity of equipment and processes, alert management of potential integrity issues, and provide recommendations to correct the respective issues
  • Analysis of equipment history to identify reliability improvement opportunities in existing and developing systems
  • Develop goals, objectives, and work plans for the reliability engineering team
  • Manage making key decisions with respect to technology and lead all aspects of our program maintenance and asset health
  • Coordinate and participate in technical studies carried out by EPCs or licensors
  • Provide recommendations to capital improvement projects to ensure reliability and maintainability
  • Ensure compliance with local government regulations and industry standards

We’d like to review your application if you have…

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • 10 or more years of mechanical and / or reliability experience with your Professional Engineering designation
  • Pipeline, Refinery or Petrochemical plant engineering experience with detailed knowledge of hydraulic processes and technologies including heavy oil processing
  • Strong knowledge and experience with mechanical design and active failure mechanisms for pressure vessels, static and rotating assets
  • A Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

Preference for:

  • Proven analytical skills, experience conducting root cause assessment as well as drawing and presenting conclusions and recommendations
  • Familiarity with the refining industry codes and standards (e.g., API 510)
  • A go-getter who makes decisions with integrity and supports company objectives and policies
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) which allow you to collaborate with others to achieve the best results and deliver the most value
  • An individual who thrives in a dynamic environment with multiple priorities, challenging demands, and strict deadlines
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of SAP Processes including maintenance plans and strategies.
  • Knowledge of the Suncor Maintenance and Reliability Standard (particularly reliability/asset integrity processes)

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our SELC office located in Sherwood Park Alberta
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
  • This position is safety sensitive

Working Conditions

  • This position has been identified as safety sensitive
  • You will have a workstation at our pipeline’s office in Sherwood Park, but will also work in the field as needed – 30% field – 70% office
  • You thrive in a dynamic environment with multiple priorities, challenging demands, and strict deadlines
  • You can perform physical inspections of equipment, which may involve confined spaces, high elevations, and special personal protective equipment during extreme weather conditions
  • This role requires you to be available and/or at site as necessary during shutdowns, emergencies, or when there are operational problems arise
