Your Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Structural Engineering Student for our Ottawa office for a 12-16 month placement. The successful candidate will be part of the Structural Engineering team within the Building’s Engineering group.

Your Key Responsibilities

Providing assistance to Project Managers and Senior Structural Engineers in the design/analysis of new, renovated, and rehabilitated buildings` structures from the conceptual stage through to construction administration.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Demonstrated skill at organizing and planning work within tight deadlines.
  • Detailed attention to requirements and ensuring quality work.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment and common sense at work.
  • The ability to work independently and maintain productivity unsupervised.
  • The discipline to maintain required safe work procedures in any environment.
  • Experienced at working well in a team environment.
  • Strong English verbal and writing skills are required.
  • French language skills are considered an asset.
  • Ability to travel within Canada may be required.
  • Current Driver's license is required.
  • A working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit is an asset.
  • Familiar with the National and Ontario Building Codes, CAN/CSA S16, A23.3, 086, S-136, AISC and other design guides.
  • A working knowledge of Structural Engineering Analysis/Design Software such as: ETABS, SAP, S-Frame, SAFE and WoodWorks is beneficial.

Education and Experience

Working toward a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Structural Engineering.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
